Silvio for sale in Michigan

July 4, 2009
Hey guys,
My Silvio is for sale: she is built... with a Shimano Ultegra SL kit, with compact 34/50t cranks. She has Shimano Ultegra hubs with Mavic Open Pro Rims, and has WTB mountain bike handle bars.
Silvio was assembled September 2008. Less than 200 bike trail miles. Asking $2,600
Daniel

PS It is one of the original batch (#8), so it has the medium frame; it used to be D.C.'s, I believe. Will include a Silvio Cruzbike jersey.

The bike is like new (less than a year old); I only wish the rider was.

So, you want to work out a trade? I have a Catrike "Speed" for sale...2005 model w/~2k miles.

Hey Trapdoor,
Thanks for the offer; Catrikes are nice, light, and low to the ground. Bet that baby screams! But I am looking for a trike that folds, has rear suspension, has decent ground clearance, a seat angle that is adjustable, and handle bars that adjust to fit me. 6'5" and 215 lbs and 49" outseam (sp?). I have been reading a lot about trikes and I like the idea of such a stable platform. Never ridden one, though. Have a lot invested in the Silvio; been riding her indoors on a Kinetic trainer. Quite a workout.
I reckon it would take a very special offer for me to part with her. (She's so pretty. :) )
Thanks,
Daniel

Hey JonB!
Sorry; I wasn't thinking of shipping the bike too far. I would have to disassemble everything, and get custom boxes made to fit. If someone here in the States wants it bad enough, then I could deliver it to them. Or perhaps we could meet halfway, if it is a long drive.
Thanks,
Daniel

Yeah, the Catrike has none of the provisions you want (other than adjustable handlebars). Trikes are a real hoot and I get that "trike grin" everytime I climb aboard. I just don't ride mine much at all any more, so I've got it down at the LBS on consignment. There are a couple of things that drove me away from triking: lack of a good way to transport, relative slowness, poor visibility and tire wear. The "slow" part isn't that much of an issue as I really enjoy just cruising along as much as I enjoy zipping along. Transport issues are a pain but solutions are out there (I built a trailer). Tire wear...well, it just happens on a trike. I wore out my first set of front tires in about 250mi...before I figured out how to accurately adjust the alignment. However, even after I solved that, front tires just don't last. In 2k miles, I think I went thru 4 or 5 front sets and one rear. On my Baron, I have 2k miles on one set. YMMV, of course.

Visibility is probably the most critical feature. Both my Catrike and Baron suffer from being so low that your head is at "hubcap height". I never have problems with cars seeing me, it is my ability to see them in parking lots and street intersections that is the problem. Big +1 for the Cruzbike!

Hey,
Thanks for the advice on trikes; I don't have any experience driving one. The stability of the ride (no wobbling), and the portability of a folding trike greatly appeal to me. Where I live, in metro Detroit, the car is king (I know...it seems like the king is dead:) and folks just don't look out for cyclists. So I have been putting my Silvio in my Pontiac Vibe and driving to different Metroparks with good bike trails. Speed limit is only 10 miles per hour, but when nobody is looking the limit goes up!

If noone is looking, are you really speeding at all?

We have owned just about every trike you can think of, but a Trice -- Greenspeed, Catrike, AVS Windcheetah, Optima Rider, and WizWheel. For an all around trike, I prefer the Greenspeed. The funny thing is that I just sold my GTR to make room for a new Silvio. It would have fit you, but it was rebuilt more for performance than tooling around. We still have Greenspeed GTT that my wife and I ride. That tandem is so long that we need an intercom system to communicate -- no kidding! I would only recommend a Windcheetah to an experienced trike rider. It takes some time to master.

With that said, those Trice owners that I know are fiercely supportive of the brand. I suspect you would not go wrong with either hoice. And lastly, my wife thoroughly enjoys her WizWheel Cruizer. It took me several tries to find what she believes is the perfect trike.

Good luck on your next acquisition.

Why are you selling it? What did you not like about it? I also live in Michigan. I am a former roadie with arthritis in my neck. The Silvio sounded like an option for me so I could still ride with family and friends.
