Riding suburban paved trail today. Asphalt has buckled in a few places. I thought my insides were going to fall out. What is biggest bang for buck to make ride smoother? Also I’m doing Katy trail in September (240 miles of gravel) and I want to enjoy the ride. Please help.

If you have 700c wheels, I would suggest 38mm tires with tubeless setup so that you can have them at 40psi or so. I have 2017 S40 with 38mm Schwalbe G-one tires. Or you can get 650b wheels and bigger tires with lower pressure setting to get even cushier ride.

So, this post was from 2 years ago! My family wound up getting COVID and people from all over the country were coming in (some older) so I didn't go. BUT...the next year ...2024.. I rode the C and O Trail from Cumberland, MD to DC. It wasn't paved. A significant portion was a dirt "toe path" for mules as the hauled barges down the canal. S40 was awesome. Took me a bit to get used to riding on dirt/rock but it performed flawlessly.
