Me on the V20 literally followed by Mark on a DF for 110 miles. I don't mean we were around each other for most of the first 110 miles, I mean he was no more than 5 feet off my rear wheel for the first 7 hours of the ride. I know power meters from one bike can't always be compared as well as ride weights play a role as well as pacing but Mark mirrored my pace exactly and physical we are very close in size. Even if our meter are off from one another the consistency should track throughout the ride and you can see that happens in pretty much every segment before we part ways at 110 miles. What I find interested is one the flats his power seems to be slightly higher than mine because I'm more aero but he's also getting a draft. When climbing I made sure to pour on some extra power to make up for my extra weight and you can see our power numbers get even closer to each other on the climbs were drafting isn't really a thing due to less speed.

I've only once before had a ride perfectly draft me for this kind of distance but he was a much larger rider so numbers were highly inflated with his size.

Looks like you rode about 1/4 of the Borrego Springs big loop. Pavement noticeably better than when you did the 24hr there?

nope, that part I rode was still the part they repaved and did a shit job of it. If you thought that was good compared to the rest then they didn't fix shit. From where you cross the stop sign each lap down to the right turn just before where I joined the course has always been the worst part of the asphalt out there.

I compared 6 segments, 3 flat and 3 not. Here is the ratio of Mark's power to yours for each:

Mark/Jason Segment flat?
0.91747573 Wisconsin to Carlsbad Village Y
1.03755869 Carlsbad racetrack Y
1.02116402 Smelly TT Away from Town Y
1.03557312 San Pasqual Valley Road Climb N
1.02479339 Old Julian Highway N
0.98104265 Santa Ysabel to Wynola Summit N

Looks like on the flats the draft that Mark got from you was canceled by his less aero position. And from the ratio on the climbs I'd guess that Mark weighs a little more than you, especially since your Vendetta weighs more than his bike.

Yes, when I did the race recon in Sep, that section from the stop sign headed south thru the S-curve down to the right-hand turn onto Borrego Springs Road was really bad. Rattle your fillings loose bad. Reminded me of Japanese massage chairs that shake you. They covered it with new chip seal. Better, but I could see and feel patched cracks that were there before the new chip seal.

Rattle your fillings. Detach your retinas. Massage your kidneys. Worse than that, bend your wheels. I hate bad surfaces.

12/24 roads too painful for me, had to stop and ice neck too often. They truly suck. When Christophe Strasser would pass me, as he often did, on that nasty back stretch, he spent a lot of time pedaling out of the saddle....that is how bad it was.

I am surprised at the relatively little power differences between Rojo and Mark.

I did a 200k with an upright rider in a fairly leasurily 7 hours but there was a 20 mile stretch where we played around measuring the effect of drafting me at rando speed of around 22 mph. He was getting 20-25 watts benefit. He ride behind me and then move well off my wheel to see how much additional power he needed to keep pace. Riding two up, he was deep into Tempo and I was in Zone 1. Riding my wheel made it easier for him.....down into zone 2. I suppose my fat ass had something to do with it.
