Wielder of the Rubber Mallet
Just a fun little report for today. Took the kids to the Tour de Tonka in Minneapolis burbs. Since they would be riding Quests at somewhat reduced speeds that's also the bike I took. So I spent most of the day with the B level DF riders passing them doing 20+ up hill while they struggled to do 9 mph. Then I'd wait for kids to catch up; and repeat the process. I have a feeling a few of them were rather sick of me by the end of the day
Towards the end of the day was the go fast fun highlight. For a 6 mile leg into the wind, a 10 man pace line tried to run me down as I pedaled my 20" quest into a headwind all by myself with no help over some of the biggest hills. They never did catch me until we got to the stoplight where I told the kids I would wait for them. They burned through 4 lead out riders trying to get me. At the stoplight the Quest got a ton of positive respect from the that group. Guess they are lucky the Vendetta was home in the garage because a Quest doing 24mph was more than they could match with 77 miles in there legs.
And the stupid comment of the day goes to the "strong" rider that pulled up next to me at a stoplight and commented that I had my Giro Air Attack helmet on (It provides the best sun protection so I wore that) his remark was that my bike needed as much aero help as possible. Therefore of course I had to leave him in the dust at the light and up the hill. 5 minutes later he caught me at the rest stop rolling past sheepishly adverting his gaze as he went past me enjoying fruit and water on the lawn. I made sure to wave at his girl-friend who was laughing at him and pointing me out to him, I'm pretty sure the comment was "I think you need his bike not his helmet."
