Thursday night’s race was an absolute barnburner.
The Cruzbike Chicks served up a sizzling takedown of the Sticky Bottles, snapping the Stickies' unbeaten streak over the Chicks. That streak? History now.
Sign-ups started slow this week—summer’s here, and folks are spending more time outside—but the Chicks rallied. Team High Speed couldn't field a full squad, so they teamed up with the Chicks just to stay in the game. And it paid off big.
Only two Cruzbike Virtual Race Teams toed the line this week in the WTRL race: Sticky Bottles and Cruzbike Chicks. But what a showdown.
The race launched with a quick drop down Governor Street on the Richmond course. The Stickies started 4 minutes ahead of the Chicks and had a solid plan: protect their designated “Cling-On,” Greg Gross, up the climbs so he could hammer the flats. The Chicks’ plan? Simple—go fast.
It all came to a head on the second climb of lap two when the Chicks made the catch. The Stickies’ strategy started to crack. Greg was hanging on, but barely—and 8 km is a long way to cling when the hammer’s down. He dropped. It looked like the Streak was officially dead.
Then—chaos in Chickland. The Gremlins strike. Laura suffers a dreaded "virtual mechanical" and comes to a standstill. Greg sails past. Laura is stuck, motionless, and beaten… or so it seemed. Was the Streak really going to survive?
Not a chance.
In what might go down as the Greatest comeback in Cruzbike Virtual Race Team history, Laura breaks free from the Gremlin and takes off in pursuit. The Stickies could’ve had motors—it wouldn't have mattered. Laura was locked in: focused, furious, and absolutely flying.
The lead changed hands six times during the race. But when the dust settled, Laura crossed the line for a Cruzbike Chick win. Unchallenged. Victorious. The Chicks ended the Streak with authority.

You might expect the Sticky Bottles to hang their heads. But no—far from it. They gave it everything and came away humbled but inspired. They witnessed something special. A ride for the ages.
