I bought this bike for my wife and I plan to add an electric motor kit from Electric Bike Solutions.
This should make learning how to ride a Cruzbike easier for her - something she has struggled with in the past.
I have owned a T50 for years and so I'm familiar with the bike.
This bike arrived Monday and I set to work.
The bike is indeed like new with apparently very few miles and not a scratch on it.
Gotta love people who for whatever reason do not learn how to ride a Cruzbike and provide us experienced Cruzers with bargains to add to our collection (this is the 7th Cruzbike I have purchased).
My initial inspection was that the seat bag shown in one photo was not included and the seat cushion is too narrow for the seat pan. It fits my Vendetta well so I'm left to wonder how a Vendetta seat cushion made it onto a T50?
As I started to assemble I noticed a missing bolt for the boom clamp which was easily replaced, and more concerning, a bent derailleur hanger.
I cautiously tapped the hanger back into shape but, worried that the hanger might have been weakened, I ordered another one along with a kickstand from Cruzbike. I thought a replacement hanger wouldn't cost more than $5 but was surprised by the cost of $25, almost as much as the kickstand!
Once I had the bike assembled I set to work on the drivetrain.
It came with Sram Red cranks with dual 38/34 chainrings but oddly no derailleur for the rings.
The 11 spd cassette and derailleur are Sram NX with 11-40 gearing, just the same as on my T50. I really like this drivetrain for it's wide range, simplicity and solid shifting performance.
A problem showed up when I saw how the derailleur allowed the chain to sag when shifted to the higher gears.
Someone had apparently messed with the der at some point and taken out a little stop screw, allowing the jockey wheel cage to unwind.
With the help of a Youtube video I was able to rewind the spring and now it shifts fine.
My wife took it out yesterday, riding it up and down the street after some rough starts.
Now I'm waiting on the electric kit, a rack and Origin 8 handlebars to arrive. The straight handlebar it came with doesn't allow for proper arm positioning.
All in all I'm very pleased with this purchase and we'll see if my wife will take to this black beauty enough to give up her Bacchetta 26/20 Giro which I bought for her in 2002.
