T50 Project

Picked up a T50 ser no 1709-307 off of Bentrider forum.
Turning into a fun project.

In reading through the site I haven’t seen a T50 with the name on the boom. Any idea why?
Other non standard things:
Steering extension is 1-1/4 straight tube 7” long.
Slider is cut to 10”, I think it should be 15”
Boom is 10.75”, should also be about 15”?

Pictures are how I received it. The original seat pan was cut down and used as a mount for the seat.
With the short tubes I’d have to mount it to the rear posts for my xseam. That would create cg issues and the handlebar would need to be 240mm aft of the steer tube.

Original plan was to mount the seat and build it up as I received it. I’d put hydraulic brake and mtb gearing on later. The original components haven’t been run and were too nice to use for just a few miles.

Plan B, Elemjay modification to get the BB and seat where they belong (In progress).
I‘ve made a seat mount that mount the seat to the 2” frame tube, I now can put the seat anywhere I need to on the frame. Seat stays are also done.

More to follow…….

The boom and slider must have been trimmed to pull the cranks back far enough for the seat position. Only the inside tube needed trimming though. But it looks like you still enough outside-tube anyway.

interesting set up. but lots of fun left to be had. that is the beauty of the t 50. i have done some goofy stuff with mine, and nowadays i just leave the 406 wheelset on it.

Hmm. Just came across this. The setup is certainly interesting, however the first issue I see is how the rider's center of mass will affect the handling due to seat placement. It looks pretty far back from the baseline location. which is generally not good for a FWD. Just a thought.

Damn called out. Life has been busy. Current iteration. This has been 3 steps forward and 2 steps back kinda project as I learn about the T50. Seat much further forward for cg. New slider to get the crank forward. Current issues being resolved, forward seat mount needs to be stronger, may have to play with the steering/handle bar geometry.

Seat much further forward for cg.
That's looking much better. Given you have an airplane in your garage, you certainly don't need a lecture about CG. :) I'm sure you've heard the old adage "If it looks right it'll fly right". That pretty much goes for recumbents too. I think you're on the right path.
