To ride or not to ride, due to COVID- 19

I haven't been riding outside for a week because now that many places are closed, doctor's office only sees urgent patients, and many hospitals are or will be overwhelmed by patients, I don't want to get injured and can't get seen or need to worry about additional infection.

What do you guys think or are doing?

Rode to work today. Will ride to work as much as I can during shutdown as fewer cars on road and no appointments.

How often do you fall off?
I do not remember the last time I needed to see a doctor so I will keep riding.

Ride carefully. You do need exercise, but no need to push hard. Recovery days are not what you want, just exercise.

Fresh air is good for the health.

But if you are weakened by another illness, stress, other underlying conditions then you definitely should save your strength especially if you are in a high risk location or occupation or anticipate contracting the virus. Most (80%) have mild symptoms no worse than a cold but the percentage that get severe symptoms is high and more severe than most illnesses we have to deal with in this amazing age of health..

So to each there own analysis of their situation- will fresh air and physical exercise do you good vs. Does it gain you extra exposure or potentially weaken your immune system.

Certainly don’t over do it (pot calling kettle) otherwise in general if it is permitted then a ride outside is even better than inside.

As they say on Zwift- “Ride On.”

Whether in or outside my shirt says “it’s not a race” on the front and “It’s a race” on the back.:D

There is less traffic now. Less risk of getting run over? Or does the lack of traffic make those who do drive blasé?

COPD prevents that. I think it also makes the virus deadly for me. But I always ride on my own. The only way to get the virus on a bike is by drafting behind someone who has it. If you think you are an asymptomatic carrier stay at the back of the peloton.

The back of the shirt of a bentist is invisible.

I've been riding outside some, mostly on the Q. Traffic is light to nonexistent, and I know the roads well. One advantage of living in a small town. Walking or light jogging other days.

my lungs are also junk, and i am an at risk, but the fresh air helps them after i stop coughing from the temperature change, or the mold, or the pollen.....

i was on zwift for a couple years. i never really got into it. i would much rather ride outside on on my wahoo, i watch a movie. that and the elliptical are the only time i watch tv.

I’m riding outside. Mostly neighborhood or country roads. The trails are crowded and do not allow for proper distance. My allergies are bad right now being outside does not make them worse. The Fl sunshine improves my mental mood tremendously. I mainly ride my Silvio but did take out my Q the other day.

You are more likely to fall over on the pavement and bang our head needing hospital treatment then you are needing hospital treatment riding your bike - so ride.

I’m riding more due to my job being shutout. Our county just enacted a stay home order but allow outside activities like running and cycling as long as you maintain social distancing.

We have the same... I am just wary of the remote possibility of an accident and having to go see a doctor or to a hospital. It has been raining this week, so I can't do anything outside anyway.

No doubt the benefit of continuing riding is manifestly necessary versus the low risk of infection for this particular cycling tragic. I’m seeing more cycling in my area. Riding inside too is a great option. Just keep riding if you can.
