Took the Bike for a Walk

Yeah, really.

It was a beautiful day, all day; this afternoon was 60F.
So, naturally, I had to go outside and play in the street with the Sofrider.

Warm weather is wonderful for making power.
No sweaty layers to contend with.
Warm air to breathe.
Most importantly, for me, the ol' leg muscles actually warm up enough
to make some power.

Unfortunately, 4 miles into the ride, I felt something stuck to the
tread of the rear tire.
It felt like, "thump-thump" but it sounded like, "click-click."
It was a .5-inch long brass brad, nailed into the center of the rear tire.

Since I was only about 2.5 miles away from home...and the country lane
has only muddy ditches (no shoulders) available for puncture repair....
I decided to take my bike for a walk,
and repair the tube with my favourite tools, in the shady garage, sitting on
a stool with the bike on it's piece of carpet.

It's easy, walking a Cruzbike.
There's nothing in the way of your feet: the bottom bracket is out of the way.
How convenient.

A roadie I wave to -I wave at 'em all- stopped to offer assistance,
but I stuck to my plan.
Besides, there really wasn't a nice place to work and, of course,
I really did not wish to impose on the Samaritan's time.
He was enjoying the day as well: why invite him to work in the mud?

The garage was, as planned, a fun place to fix the bike.
The tube was holed in two places.
The entry point, where the brad poked through the tread and the exit point,
where the tip of the brad punctured the tube where it rests on the rim tape.

While the wheel was off...I disassembled the wheel bearings, regreased 'em
and did a bit of truing.

Despite what you may be thinking...or not...what a nice day!
I took the bike for a walk!
;)

Cool! At least you got out and about.

I agree that fixing a flat in the comfort of the mancave; with carpet on the floor,TV, surround sound and a cold beer is hard to trump.
