Turning the Back Bar around on My Q45

Tophat Fiddle

Hello, folks. I thought I might try turning the back bar around on my Q45 so as to get the seat to recline more. Like this. Anybody ever try this? I'll add an after-test report if there's any interest....

Heck, I even figured out a way to get the back rack to go on with the back tube turned around, heh! I tried it out today without the rack; I'll try it out tomorrow WITH the rack (with a little bit of weight back there just to see how much clunking and clattering there is). Mmm.

I'd really like to go one MORE notch down, but to comfortably ride with that much recline, I'm going to need a headrest....

Yes, did that on my 2018 Q45. Also put on a Thor seat. Very comfortable with the more reclined position.

Tried that on my 2021 Q45. Apparently, Cruzbike has changed the angle of the tube. It didn’t work.i did add a Ventist seat from another Cruzbike I had. A lot more comfortable than the stock seat.

After a lot of experimentation, I ended up using a post base for a 6x6 from my local hardware store as the the mount for my thor seat. Here is the finished setup. It works really well. I weigh 225, and I rode the setup for a 65 mi loaded ride. I am still using the angled seatpost. 1000026514.jpg

So I've decided to take it a bit further. Going to use 2 4x4 brackets, one for each of the seat mounts that are on the mainframe. I'm going to cut the steerer tube down to allow for a lower mounting of the handlebars. I'm also replacing the shock with an aluminum bar that that is 25 mm x 25 mm. All of this is my attempt to modify this Q45 to be similar to my V2/K. With that bike, I had managed to get the seat to be cradled inside the frame, giving me both a great vantage for seeing the road ahead as well as being able to use the seat back power pedaling while avoiding recumbutt. I rode almost 10,000 miles on that bike.

1. Here is the shortened steerer with the Cane Creek Viscoset damper added to the top stack. I cut the steerer tube down by 4 in.
2. I cut a notch into the 4x4 post holder to allow the Thor seat to sit closer to the frame.
3. I cut a second 4x4 post holder with a similar notch to a fix to the back of the Thor seat and used the upside down original seat post to give me the proper lean.
4. It rides really well. Now for a test long ride.
