Ok so the finalized version of my restraint is done and installed. The O-Ring idea was a great start and easily tunable with different sized O-ring readily available at most hardware stores but the spring isn't going to fatigue and break any time soon.
The spring can be found online at McMaster-Carr and its item # is 9628k8. It's 3.25" long, .563 OD, with 0.091 wire diameter. Comes in packs of 6 for $15 and is a nice silver zinc plated finish. I painted mine red because I hate silver or Crome things.
The tiny threaded stud in the frame is part # 95907a460. It's stainless steel to no rust and that's just a little black plastic washer lying over it for a cleaner look. If your ergos are set on the boom itself you could use a stud up there as well but I like the adjustment my slide rail gives me for now. I think I'll add one more 5mm threaded insert 2.5 inches in front of the existing ones so I can ditch the zip tie and can chose to mount a bottle 2.5" more forward later on if I want.
