V20 cranks (warehouse deal)

I just purchased a V20 warehouse deal. The V comes with 165 mm cranks. I ride my Silvio 2.1 with 150mm cranks, sram apex, shortened by Mark Stonich. Is this still one of the best options or do you smart folks recommend another source? Or type?

I also bought a curved slider which I also use on my Silvio. I will be an old lady, on a fast bike, sightseeing in comfort.

Many thanks.

I am also looking at short cranks right now for a Silvio 2.o build this coming winter. Besides Mark's offerings, you should look at the Rotor Aldhu crank that comes in a 155mm length and has one degree adjustable Q-rings, and Cobb has one as well as TA Specialty, but only in square taper BB, but those will fit the new V20.

Though expensive I am leaning towards the Rotor Aldhu, but would like to run SRAM Axs Etap 12spd, but Rotor only has one chainring combo that is designed for Axs, a 48/35t which does not quite work for the gearing I want. I have talked to them and they are planning more options, but won't share a timeline. But I am going to keep an eye on their website, but I am also looking at backup plans.

I may try the Sansah 12spd while I wait for Rotor, or go 11 spd which gives me lots more options, but not as good of gearing, and then expensive to switch to Axs later. I want fairly close gear spacing at the fast end, and a granny gear for the hills that I deal with daily.

Good luck
Mark

I'm putting my Cobb GXP 155 mm cranks on my new red S-40. (Yes, I got bit by the N+1 bug). I had switched my Vendetta from the Cobb to a powermeter carbon crank with 162.5 mm arms. I like the Cobb, it's available in 145, 155, 160, & 165 mm. The ownership changed, no longer on cobbcycling.com, now at:
https://speedandcomfort.com/collections/short-cranksets/products/alloy-short-cranks
The Cobb will fit 5-hole Q rings, available here. If you want to stay with those, it may be worth the extra cash to go with the Rotor set-up. Maybe @ratz may be able to share his experience with his conversion.

Another option are the Crupi Rhythm Expert cranks. Affordable, no bottom bracket or chain rings (so you can choose your own), and they range from 150 to 160mm. They are marketed as BMX cranks, but they handle a double chain ring setup perfectly. I use these on both my S30 and S40. Shimano 24mm bottom bracket ready.

So, I could use the bottom bracket and rings that come with the bike, and just replace the arms? That sounds like a great option. I am assuming the V has the same bottom bracket. Thanks

If you bought Cruzbike's build kit, they use Sram parts, which would include a SRAM bottom bracket, which is not compatible with Shimano cranks, which is the standard that the Crupi cranks use (a decent Shimano bb for 24mm spindles costs about $30.00). The rings, however, would transfer over just fine, as long as they are 110BCD ("compact") and not 130BCD ("regular"). I have settled on 160mm cranks, but I do have a set of 155mm Apex cranks, also shortened by Mark Stonich, that I'm not using. They are in great shape and would fit the bb that came with your V. I'd sell them for $90.00, including shipping. Let me know if you're interested.

Thank you for the offer. I have decided to sell my Silvio 1.0, and take the 150 mm Apex cranks, from Mark Stonich, and put those on the V. I still have the original Silvio cranks. I’ll put those back on the Silvio. I also appreciate the education. I did buy the Cruzbike build warehouse deal.
