V20 vs. S40 Compared

I was told that it was snowing at Yad Mos on LEL 2013... But meybe light snowing is better than strong douwnpour.

As long as there is some traction I'd buy that statement every day, snow is beautiful, dry (usually), and fun.

Here's my V20 with the Thor Sport seat installed.

V20Thor.jpg

It took some tinkering, but I think I've finally got it dialed in and I have to say it makes a HUGE difference.
I very much prefer the higher seat angle, the lumbar support AND (especially) no longer needing a headrest.
FWIW, the rubber blocks I used to mount the seat raised its angle a little and also seem to dampen road vibration. I also did not have to trim the upper seat mount tabs from the frame.
Earlier, I'd purchased the Thor "Easy" model for the S40 but quickly realized it was unnecessary as the stock seat fit me just fine even w/o the headrest.

Between the two bikes, the V20 is definitely a better candidate for this modification, IMHO.

Great assessment by Leif on the fit. Yes indeed having too long a chainstay sends you rapidly into the realm of diminishing returns for handling. And it is usually NOT more areodynamic.

What is the optimal height of the BB above the lowest part of the seat?

Few photos what I can take now and what I have found in my phone.
I have forgotten that I have one aditional block of rubber squeezed between seat and frame. It is in place where you push by your lower back when you pedal hard. The seat was moving backward with each pedal stroke so there was some energy waste. I added this rubber and movement is reduced to minimum.

Leif,

Nice, comfortable-looking Vendetta!

Q-Is that the XL size Thor seat? If not, what size is it?

(Background: I installed a Volae Seat & ADEM Neckrest soon after I started riding my V2.0 (January 2015) for improved comfort & lower vibrations to my head/neck. I like the comfort of my installation, but have been wanting a more reclined upper seat portion (similar to the stock Cruzbike seat) for better aerodynamics . I believe the Thor Sport will give me that, judging by your photo.) (See my V2.0 below.)

(Regarding Comfort Improvement: on my V2.0, I sewed up two sandwich constructions consisting of "hook Velcro tape--0.125" thick Sorbathane--pile Velcro tape" each approx. 1" wide by 24" long. I used industrial grade Velcro strips for additional strength & additional padding/shock absorption. These padded strips then were installed between frame & seat via CruzBike's standard "Velcro on the frame" mounting method. I also used my industrial grade Velcro on two rubber blocks used at upper & lower ends of the seat. I drilled & bolted the lower attachment thru the seat, rubber&Velcro block, and lower attach lugs on the frame. With all that Velcro nothing wiggles around and the head/neck vibrations are attenuated thru Velcro, Sorbathane, Seat, & ADEM headrest!)

(BTW, long overdue thanks to Rick Youngblood & Joe Weissert for the Volae, Thor, ADEM, & Sorbathane ideas!)

Thanks, Joe Buerk.

Thanks Joe!.

That's a Large size Thor seat. I'm 6"2" and it fits me fine. I imagine the Extra Large must be pretty big.

FWIW, I'm using rubber blocks of varying widths at 4 frame-to-seat contact points secured with standard velcro. Because I'm not using the headrest, I've drilled a hole near the top of the seat which lines up with the upper Perez Clamp hole in the frame and use a 5mm bolt, though a rubber block, to secure it. So far so good. In the event I need to make things even more secure, I've purchased some of that industrial grade velcro and can also use the (still intact) upper seat mount tabs... but like I said, so far so good. Really good!

Thanks again Leif. Sounds like the Large will work for me too. (I am 6' 1" tall with 34" inseam leg length.)

For those of us unfamiliar with it, how does the Thor seat differ from the Stock CB carbon seat?
In shape and construction. Stock is nearly flats without shoulders support. It is not self suporting to it needs to be supported by frame. On the other side Thor is classic recumbent seat. It is ergonimically shaped so you need correct size. It has 2 support ribs so it can be fixed to frame only on few points (usualy 2) not in whole length.

Nice bike. I love this Yellow. Does your chainstay clamp to BB external bearing shell or to boom?
