This is not a steering stabilizing device and will not help a rider reduce their wobble. I had this for years on my original V20, and it has no effect on normal riding because the spring effect is extremely progressive; it has very little strength for the first 20 deg of front end rotation. It does have a bit of a nice feel in tight cornering as the spring rate ramps up, but how often are you doing U-turns at 7 mph? That'll certainly do it! Do you notice any impact on steering/handling? Also, I assume it doesn't have any effect on your "45 MPH downhill with bumps on a curve" scenario - correct?
I suspected that it was entirely an anti-flop device since, as you say, there'd be little effect from the spring until you're turning 20 degrees or more which doesn't typically happen in normal riding. Having said that, it does seem like it'd be helpful on e.g., 90 degree turns on bike trails where there's a tendency for the front end to dive in.This is not a steering stabilizing device and will not help a rider reduce their wobble. The part clamped onto the boom is hammered out of stainless sheet metal, and kind of a pain in the A$$ to get perfect, so I'm not making them for sale. Most of the point of trying the Viscoset first was to avoid having to figure out that odd stainless clamp solution, and I was hoping it would have an effect on stability, unlike this device.
How is the Viscoset working? Most of the point of trying the Viscoset
It works as intended but it doesn't help in the areas I was hoping it would, because the steering movements at 50-60mph are just too small to dampen. I beleive if you have other cruzbikes like the S40 that come equiped with a Viscoset and you just want a similar feel, adding one to the V20 will get you that similar feel. How is the Viscoset working?
