V20c head posture

Hi, I'm considering purchasing a v20c due to neck issues that may prevent me from riding a road bike but am concerned about the position of one's neck while riding it. It appears that you would need to assume a rather forward head position in order to see where you're going but it's hard to tell from the videos I've seen. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could shed some light on this. Thanks.

Hi Marlo,
Technically that is correct. Speaking strickly numbers: If the seat is at 20 degress and you want your eyes to be looking strainght ahead - then you have to bend your neck about 70 degrees. There are some tricks to minimize that. Get a seat that kind of curls up the last 12" (like a Thor, or the Cruzbike CF adj seat). then this gently curves your back upward (and your head forward) - there you don't have to bend your neck as far.
You can also get a foam wedge that does the same thing. The one we sell kind of mimics the S40 final upper back position so you only have to bend your neck about 50 degrees to be looking straight ahead.
..
In reality you do not need to really be looking straight ahead either for a good view down the road - but you want to at least be around 10% degrees off of horizontal. The closer you can get to horizontail the more aero you will be however, but 10 is pretty good.
..
Where do you live. I run the Cruzbike Museum and have all the models and all the different seats, headrests, etc on hand to try out what would work best for you. I am in Hiltion Head Island, SC - I have had dozens of people fly from all around the country and even other countries to check out the Museuma, learn to ride, and get a perfect fit on their Cruzbike. It is worth the time, effort, and expenses in the long run.

If you find you just can't get the V20C to work not matter what, I actually have a pretty hard to fine S30 that might work for you. It is a model they made a few of between the V20 and the S40. The lucky people that have them love them because it is like having the best of both worlds in one Cruzbike.

Feel free to give me a call if you would like to chat.

Hi Larry, thanks for your reply. That was very helpful. I'm in Illinois so, not super close to SC but I may try to head down there sometime if my schedule allows. Thanks again.

Hello Mario, I live about an hour south of Springfield Illinois. I recently purchased a V20C from Larry. I installed the Carrier model seat from Thor
on the bike. You are more than welcome to visit me and examine the V20C first hand to determine if this style of recumbent would work for you saving you a few miles before you make up your mind. If it will work, then you can make plans with Larry.

Just pm me if you would like to examine the V20C and make arrangements.

1 of the first things many people comment about when sitting on my V20 for the first time is about the incredible view without having to hold your head up like on an upright bike. Yeah, our bodies are designed to hold our head up but not necessarily in the position that road bikes put our bodies in. I have went through several different head rest options on my V20, all of which were better than my road bike's position for neck comfort. However I finally settled on the current setup because it is the most comfortable, and easiest to clean. Now, instead of feeling like a Bobble Head doll always trying to dull neck pin by moving my head around trying to distribute the pain to several muscles innstead of hammering just one, I have my eyes pointing forward 100% of the time and my neck/head rest couldnt feel any better.

My S40 is obviously not so extreme but I suffer badly with my neck (off the bike) almost 100% of the time. Whenever I ride I come back home with my neck feeling better than when I left. It works a bit like physio therapy for me as it brings my chin down to my chest and holds it there comfortably.

Thanks, I appreciate it.
