Wheel and or Spoke Lights?

So the use of spoke lights are generally seen as an added safety feature to make you more visible at night but I'm looking for the bling factor. I've done many 24hr races and I've always want to run some kind of LEDs on my wheels as they spin because it would add to the fun of the event to get some color out there. If I was on a team I go for one of those super heavy LED light boards that produces full animated movies inside your wheels but that's a bit too much weight for a solo rider doing dozens of laps.

LED light requirements
Light weight
Bright enough to be seen or else what's the point
Mounting via spokes, valve stem or adhesive

So far I've tried the Nite Ize SpokeLit but they are kind of bulky and my spoke spacing isn't close enough. I think they are meant for kids bikes and bikes with 32 spokes.

Gotta go with the motorcycle heritage. Something simple like http://shop.lunasee.com/category-s/1820.htm
The biggest trick it getting the emitters in the right spot on the front wheel, but I'm sure you could fab something better than the stock stuff which do work but could be better. Lunasee has a very thin strip, the knock off product http://norilights.com has wider strips they can be a little sketchy with delivery in the end they are the exact same system

Problem with those products and their videos is all the nori videos are using 2-4 strips per side so they look crazy bright and bold but that $60 for the kit plus like $100 in extra tape.

I've got the lunasee in spring to give it try; those are only 4mm and they are pretty bright; that's why the nori's looked better with the 6mm strip.

Right no the Nori stuff is on sales; so that $100 would get you the lights and 6mm strips for $60 and the second set of 6mm strips for $40 so that's 12mm for $100 not too bad really.

That's for the green of course.

I apologize in advance, as I know this thread is a month old now. But I just noticed it and wanted to chime in.
ratz - Regarding delivery, I'm not sure what you are referring to. I proudly stand by my product and our service to our customers. On every order confirmation email, my personal and direct cell phone number is included. If anyone has any concerns or questions, I want the opportunity to address them.

RojoRacing - For the record, about half of our videos show a bike with a single stripe on each side of each wheel, and the other half show a bike with 2 stripes installed on each side of each wheel. None of our videos or photos feature a setup using 3 or 4 stripes. In fact the spot of UV light coming from our activating pods, when installed on a bicycle, would not provide enough coverage for anything more than 2 stripes (maybe 3), rendering any additional stripes useless. The only exceptions would be on a setup with the fork further away from the rim. I can see how it could be possible to illuminate 3 or 4 stripes on a motorcycle, which could be cool, but it's really not necessary.

I really appreciate the discussion here about the Nori Lights, and hope that I was able to contribute to it or shed some light on a few of the topics mentioned. If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I'll always do what ever I can to help.

I'd also like to provide a special promo code.

Please be safe on the road. And thank you for letting me chime in.

Hi Chris,

My comment was based on a lot of research done last fall (2015) when researching the product lines available. Specifically reading everything a KickStarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bikelights/nori-lights-bicycle-illumination-system/comments and a few places I do not recall but could probably dig up. What I was found typical of a start up operation trying to get a grip on things, and people having a variety of reactions both: proper and over-the-top.

I am glad to hear that you got things sorted and are shipping product. If you check your sales records you will that I actually purchased a bunch of product late this summer to verify if you had truly sorted things out, your wider standard strips are very attractive compared to others out there. I can report I did receive the product in due time and the quality seems good; mounting and testing is still pending just due to my time issues.

I should have come back and added an update here; and if I had complete the mounting I probably would have remembered.

Welcome to the community, we have a couple lighting experts that stop by now and then and you can never have too many; I'm sure the community will appreciate the discount code.

Talking of lighting... I'm a hub dynamo user with B&M 80 lux up front and home-brew LED standlights rear, the larger in an old Lucas 525 motorbike housing on the rack. It's all geared around using the full 3W from the hub. So the question is, what's the power draw of 1 pod? I don't imagine it's a lot and 4 might be hide-able in the noise of the other components. Either way I bet I can get a simple low-loss cct going that replaces the batteries.

Thanks for your response and expansion on your experience with Nori Lights.

Our original Kickstarter campaign was back in 2012, and yes, we hit some obstacles right out the gate. But I am extremely proud of our project. I hear too often of Kickstarter projects that hit some kind of setback and the owners of the campaign write it off and quit - leaving their backers hanging out to dry. Even though our funded budget was quickly absorbed by unexpected legal costs, I never entertained the idea of calling it quits, and eventually was able to pay (out of pocket) for the final production and shipping of the rewards to our 200 backers. When a project gets launched, and goes smoothly, it's a wonderful thing. But there's something to be said about a launch that faces obstacle after obstacle, but hits them head on and pushes through.

Thank you for the kind welcome. I'm delighted to be apart of the community here at Cruzbike.

Hi McWheels.
Each pod contains 2 LEDs, and each LED draws 20ma. The LEDs are connected in series and they are powered by 2x 2032 coin cell batteries (6-7 volts).

That being said, I've got some news to share. As much as I want to, I can't go into too much detail at this moment. But the Nori Lights v.3 will be announced within just a few weeks. I think you will find some of the new features to be very interesting.

:)

As much as I wanted to display something cool and stand out during the 24hr race I opted so go simple and save money. The Nori Lights did look cool but with a sub par mounting setup on my bike plus the total cost I opted to go strait reflective tape. Maybe down the line with one of their newer revision I've give them a shot.

Also the reflective tape is black and blends well with my all carbon wheels. I wasn't sold on having white stripes on the wheels because white walls are so old school.
