Hi Guys n Gals,
I have recently retired and am a bit of a tinkerer. At this point in life, my back will no longer tolorate conventional biking or jogging, so I've been looking into the fwd recumbent and have a few questions.
Is there an advantage to using 24", 26" or 700c wheels/tires. I have cutting/welding capabilities and was wondering if the frames on mtbs are made of mild steel or high tensile strength alloy? If an alloy, how would I find out what alloy? There are many donor bikes that would work if the top bar was lowered a little. Also I was wondering if I could weld tabs on the front forks to accept disc brakes?
I will continue to look through the forum and glean information. However being a novice here, sometimes the terminology looses me!

particular welding and forming skills
frames are often one of
hiten steel
6061 alloy
7005 alloy
cromoly steel
other exotic and expensive alloys, reynolds tubing, etc.
apart from hiten steel, they require very particular welding and forming skills. This is because bicycles are extremely strong for their weight and there is not much room for error.
26 & 700 c: wide choices, anything else, limited choices.
26, usually wider, with tread and lower pressure, 700c, the opposite, which is good for going fast.
