Why are front forks reversed?

I have just about completed a conversion inspired by the Cruzbike concept. However I'm interested to find out why most of the conversions I've seen have the front forks reversed. I did so on my prototype and found I simply could not get started when I first tried to ride it. I have since turned them back to the original trailling position and today tried to ride it firtst time, somewhat successfully by comparison. I would really welcome some advice or reasons for the trend. Cheers for now...Julian

A front fork has offset, or rake, meaning if you reverse it,the dropouts are then say 8 cm further back, the wheel base is shorter by that amount, in other words. And then we fit the triangle brackets from the kit, which create a new drop out magically just where the old ones were, only with wide spacing for a rear wheel to be placed in the front.

So .. if you are not using our kit, DONT reverse the forks, or you will ruin the natural good handling that all bikes enjoy. Only if you have the triangle brackets from our kit do you reverse the forks.

Good luck with your conversion and remember, 2 3 inches of trail is enough.
