WINTER - Indoor Training - HOW?

Rick,
Yes you must downshift

Rick,
Yes you must downshift for climbing.
I am not 100% sure about full coasting on the downhills though.
I know the resistance pretty much almost totally goes away on the downhills, and the kickr has a huge flywheel, so the "wheel" will continue to spin and let you coast somewhat, but I think it would eventually just stop if you had miles and miles of steep downhills and never pedaled.
I will have to try that and see how it works, and let you know.
I think you can also go downhill much fast than you could on a real route that had sharp turns, since you don't really have to steer.

my newest indoor training setup

I am getting more set for winter now.
I have taken over the "sunroom" much to my wife's dismay. :(
Mounted a flat screen (thank you black Friday) to the wall so I can see the workout, or the route I am riding. Shown is TrainerRoad displaying a workout I created. I am also supposed to be able to ride a route and record it with my Garmin VIRM, make an mp4 file from it, then upload it with .gpx file back into trainerroad. Supposedly the video will be runand be displayed with route data as I ride. Now, that will be cool.
I can also ride any Strava segment on the KICKR, but no video at this time.

Nice Larry, I see you have

Nice Larry, I see you have the fan aimed at you to get the full virtual effect of the ride.

Looks like we (here in Northern CA) are finally getting a real winter - RAIN! For the last 3 seasons, since I started cycling, our winters have been more like spring without the spring showers. I guess it's called "welcome to the real world".

Silvio on rollers

I found an almost perfect set-up for riding my Silvio on rollers.
The rollers are set in the center of a 4ft wide galley in my basement, and I installed a mirror about 8ft in front of the BB.
The mirror allows me to stay more or less centered on the rollers, the mirrored view doesn't disturb at all.
The nearness of the walls on each side prevents me to falling, and allows for easy clipping and unclipping.
Maybe I have to wear some elbow protections ;-)

Final rendition of my Roller Platform

Mrs. Oz is happier when things look like furniture!
so, since I had the stain and poly out when re-building the back of an antique curio cabinet, I though, what the heck -
now it just looks like an "antique roller platform" - whatever that is! :)
