xD free hub options (9-32 cassette anyone?)

I bought a used zipp 303 (177) wheelset on ebay to switch my V20 to disc. And found when I opened the box it came with an xD freehub.

After figuring out what an xD hub was, I looked into what to do about it. Turns out I can change it out by buying a standard freehub for about $135, or buy a cassette for the xD.

xD cassettes appear to all be wide range, designed to be used for 1x systems. The problem is my etap wifli derailleur can't handle more than a 32 tooth cog.

The only one I can find is a 9-32 option. 3T makes one with two cog ranges
9-10-11-12-13-15-17-19-22-26-32
9-11-12-13-15-17-19-22-25-28-32

The 3T is about $235.00

My front is 50 34. A 9 - 50 combination is probably in mid 40 mph range? so just the right downhill I could use it, but not very often. Even a 10 is pretty useless. But there are a few hills near my house that I can spin out my 50 -11 so I may pick up the 9-11-xxx cassette range. Jumping from 11 to 9 is a ridiculous step, 20%, like adding another chainring!

So I dunno.

Any options I am missing? Anyone using this combination?

Thanks,

Seth

If you don't really think you would need the 50x9, then just go for a smaller large ring: 46 or 48 - You are correct, I think the xD is for a 1X system. If you pick the correct single large ring you might not need 2 rings up front. See what the steepest hill you need to climb and see what is the largest ring you can do it in with the 32, then see if you can live with that size ring paired with the 9 tooth cog.

hmm. if I used a 40T chainring with a 9-32, I would almost get the range of my old DF 11-28T cassette and 50-34T chainring setup. That setup was able to get around michigan just fine, but with the V20 I added the 32T cassette, so I would not be able to duplicate that range with one chainring, I would have to get a different rear derailleur to get a wider cassette like a 10x42. Some other day though.

You have the XX1 driver body, which is what I have. I have a 42-10 cog and a 40t ring. I do not spin out at 40mph. On those rare occasions. With your double clangers, as we used to call them, you will be good for 50mph. If you can find a long steep downer. Turn round and try to get back up that hill. I could just about do it with my gears, but yours are too Clydesdale. How long are your cranks?
