Nice race, nice finish.
I have a question: you seem to hang out at the back mostly, whereas I'm usually much closer to the front of a pack. To me it seems like you had a lot of gaps to close. Why do you choose this tactic?

I feel like that was only true in the second half of the race for several unique reasons beyond just going easier than the group. I say at the back as the result of my watts and not because I try to, I'm at 250-300 trying to recover and that just happens to land me at the back with these guys. As for having to close gaps, that's the rsik of saving watts and riding back there, but you can minimize that risk if you know what to looks for. I avoided most gaps but I missed a few warnings like the B getting mixed in and me staying behind them too long. The strong surge at the front to drop all the B's where we shelled off all the B's and several A's who didn't take the surge serious enough early enough. I was close to getting shelled there as well, if I had responded 1-2 seconds later it would have been a different result. Every time the group stretches out into a thin line you must up your watts regardless of your position because it's the results of the leader going extra hard and gaps are highly likely to form. If you don't respect the shape of the blob you will get dropped.

The other underlying reason for our differences is our weight. You and I put out the same watts but we race in different cats so 300 watts just keep me in my group of A's but 300 watts is typically pulling a B group. Also A races unlike other cats has no ceiling so we don't have a 5.0 cap, we can have a 1.5wkg spread which is insane when you consider a 1 wkg spread to be more significant as you get higher in the ranks.

@ratz since you're the xert guy around here care to enlighten us on the happening of the MPA meter in the above video? Xert's explanation states you should not be able to exceed that number but if you do it would be considered a breakthrough which I have seen on other people's video but we're talking about going over 50-100 watts in a max effort sprint. The end of this race has the gauge going empty and seems to bottom out at 298 with a few more seconds in the sprint left.

OK, here's the short version of the race. Jason pulls his team A group (red) through the B (green) and C (blue) groups then its a team sprint to the finish. Who said recumbents can't sprint? Two and a half minute video and you can see the MPA gadget these guys keep talking about. Not sure but I think Jason experienced a breakthrough with that sprint.

Ok thanks to some helpful people on the Xert page I now understand more about MPA and why the live data seemed so low for this ride. In short I don’t try hard enough, go figure :lol

it would seem the graft will be greatly adjusted for my next race. To give you an idea of how much with my new values you would’ve never saw the gauge drop below 800 in that race. In the final sprint it would’ve only drop to 550.

@Maria Parker @Jim Parker @Lucia check out the race stream. If I continue doing this I'll try making to look more pro and shrink the race window a little so we can post up some cruzbike graphics around the side. I'm thinking we need a little cartoon V20 racer to draw up as a channel mascot, I'm thinking like a 45 deg angle frontal view with the V20 mounted to the Starwars spaceship looking Neo trainer. We can cap off the design with the rider cupping his hands behind his head in pure comfort. I have a clear view of it in my head but I'm going to have to sketch it out and find a real pro to bring it to life.

Team 5 Report
We started out 8 strong and we were solid straight out of the gate with everyone grouped up nicely. We had everyone pulling at one minute rotations and everything looked smooth till I started to lose mental cognitively due to threshold HR. For some reason, I really struggle to what # rider we had on the front after they had been up there for 30 seconds so I was unsure who to call up next. Thank god Brent and Joe added their # to their in game name because that made it easy for me to keep track of at least them, I was a dummy and forgot to change my # to 1

At 24 minutes Joe's dog tripped over his internet cable(not really but it sounds more entertaining that way) and he fell off. After I saw no power for 5 seconds I told the team to keep going, this was not a no-drop week. We quickly wiped our tears away for our fallen comrade and regrouped with 7 of us.

During the 3rd lap some of us were starting to run ragged so we broke out the 30 second pulls for a few riders. I'm sure Craig was sweating at the prospects of my OCD kicking in but no one had to do any longer pulls this time to get of back on track

. I was doing my best to just stay in that 2nd spot and pull through with each new leader which seemed to help keep some of the gaps at bay. I will say it was doing a number on my attempt at recovery between pulls though. As we entered the volcano for the last time it felt like several of us were about to pop and I was fighting off calve cramps toward the end of each of my pulls. There was one moment my right calve twitched really bad and I thought I was going to fall off and call the shots as a spectator but it calmed down. Coming onto the beachfront Craig took over to lead us out and in the final stretch Chris lit it up with 12wkg so the rest of us did our best to hold his wheel.

We ended up 17th in Frappe only 22 seconds off a top 10 so a good result in my book.

I gotta get some sleep so only watched the first minute. I'll finish it tomorrow but I really liked what I saw. The pairing start, the MPA box, but best of all the quality of your audio between team members is fantastic. Makes us look so bush league :(

I just checked with these result:
Audio only on the iPhone 6 on Safari (not on the app).

Video and audio work fine on Chrome on the Windows 10 laptop.

I did not try the app.

I will watch it during my ride tonight on the computer.

It must be recognizing that you’re on a phone and giving you mobile settings, tried checking the little gear wheel for settings and see if you have it on audio only. They give that option when you’re on a phone for people who listen to streams at work with the phone in their pocket.

good idea. I never thought of that possibility- just noticed the perfect audio with blank screen.

Well I tried again to see if I could find a setting fir audio only vs. Video but couldn’t find one. No problem I should probably use their app if I am on the phone. The computer works great when I am riding and that is when I will really be watching.
Cheers
