Comfort on S40?

I rode a Q45 for 500 miles but sold it due to its weight, the way it aggravated my previous neck problems when countering the pedal-steer, and recumbutt in spite of a Ventisit pad. Fast forward a couple of years on a very comfortable P-38, and I'm thinking about an S40. How is the S40 regarding recumbutt compared to the Q45? I think my neck would be okay on a Cruzbike now. My practical side says stick with the P-38, but I really like the Cruzbike design.

My S40 is quite comfortable. No recumbutt issues but I usually don't do rides over 40 miles on it. I did try a Ventist pad on it and found it to be too hard so I stayed with the thicker stock pad. I do use a Ventist on my V20 which I take on long, fast rides and I find it comfortable enough.

I agree - You will have less chance of recumbutt on an S40 since the angle is less - However, for those who still get it, I have found a little extra padding under the seat cushion also helps. As far as your neck goes - the S40 also has a neck rest which helps out. Please reach out to me at 828-216-7806 (or cruzbikemuseum@gmail.com) if you are interested in an S40 (either new or used, stock or custom) - I am your guy! Hopefully you are close enough to visit me at the Cruzbike Museum, where I can build it and fit it to you perfectly. If not, I do drive all over the east coast to events and may be able to personally deliver it. Thanks, Larry

I have both a Q45 (purchased last year) and an S40 (purchased in June). RB issues on the Q were manageable until I did a 2 week tour when it became overwhelming.

My original plan was to use the S40 as a road bike and the Q45 as a tourer after I modified the seat angle. I wasn’t able to get that sorted so I loaded the S40 for my second trip of the summer.

I experienced no RB pain during the 8 day trip and have continued using it unloaded as my road bike.
The disclaimer - I’ve read a lot of posts on the forum regarding RB and it is clear that it affects different people in different ways and some folks are immune.
Good luck with your decision.
