Transporting (just around town)

A few things here...
1. I might want to just put my bike in the back of my SUV (just for a quick trip, not too far). It's not a huge SUV though. Taking off the rear wheel is easy enough even though it isn't quick release. But getting that honking front into the back with the wheel on was barely doable and very awkward to say the least.
I tried taking the front wheel off too - boy was it a pain to get it back on when I got where I was going!
Anyone have thoughts, tips, etc. regarding this?
2. Possibly the answer is that I really need to use a bike rack instead - if so, any tips on the right kind of bike rack for either a small SUV or sedan?
3. Does anyone routinely take the front wheel on and off for transporting around town? Is there a trick to doing it without it being a giant PITA?

The easiest (though not the cheapest) solution is a hitch rack. I have a 2 slot Kuat rack on both my cars and it easily holds both my V20c and S40. Takes just a minute to load/unload.

Of course you'll need a hitch on your SUV in addition to the Kuat.

Alas, no hitch. I knew I should have gotten that!
Depending on the car, easy and relatively inexpensive addition that you could do yourself if you're handy and have tools. I have two cars with hitches, installed one myself and had another one installed (bought the hitch online at etrailer.com). The one I had installed was $75. Hitch was $269.

With practice you get good at it. Here’s Robert
I will remove the derailleur hanger (detach from the fork) so I don’t accidentally bend it.

Practice removal and installation several times until you can do it as easily as shown in the video. My V20 stays come apart immediately, but I have done it enough so that it isn't really any more difficult than flipping my road bike over and doing the rear wheel now.

Nice. I'll review those!
