I'm rocking two chainrings. There's no derailleur, but I use hot-melt wax so if I really need that bottom gear I can stop and change it by hand without getting grease on my fingers.
I recently realized I had some lovely shots of my S40 that I hadn't shared from a camping trip in late 2019. My mom's birthday is in December, by far the easiest time of year to get reservations in the park, so we all decided to take a family camping trip, riding our bikes out to the Coast...
Fig. 1: The finished product.
A little over a year ago, I invested in a Steerstopper for my S40. It's a well-designed device, but not designed for a Cruzbike. The receivers are all more or less intended for a cylindrical top tube, and don't interface well with the main beam on the S40. That...
Thanks, all, for your kind words!
While not light, the Topeak Journey is a bit lighter than the Bob Yak. Its main purpose was supporting the solar panel, really--I could've gotten all the gear onto the bike without too much trouble, but a spot that would let the panel charge while rolling...
In August of 2019, my brother and I took an 8-day tour of Northern California, Me on my S-40, him on his road bike. Due to some technical difficulties in the interim, I just finished editing the video.
I hitched a Topeak Journey trailer to my bike using my trailer hitch mod, and made a carbon...
The hitch pieces are pretty specific to this type of trailer--most kid haulers I've seen use a pretty different mounting system that would put different stresses on the frame. Additionally, the only way I got them is because my brother turned them out between batches at work--fine occasionally...
3D printed objects tend to be abysmal in tensile strength but quite reasonable in compression, so they're great for making shims and bushings. To attach the rack, I've shimmed out the ¾" square tubing to a 30mm cylinder.
Given that this still isn't as sturdy as a standard seatpost, I thought...
I wanted the S40 for touring, and for me part of that was always going to be towing a trailer. I have two trailers--the Topeak Journey and the Bob Yak. My ideal trailer hitch was going to be one that could work with both trailers and would be very sturdy, without modifying or putting large...
