Only in Michigan - Truck kills five cyclists

Seriously? A pickup truck (why always a pickup truck?) runs down nine cyclists and kills five. Nine? He hit all nine? And then, what does the driver do? He runs away, literally, with his feet. Because his truck was so damaged, he couldn't drive away like the ODRAM killer did. Speechless...

    Beginners Pedaling Stroke

When I started riding a V, I had to cross a bridge with an MUP lane wide enough for one bike at a time. There are ruts to catch a wheel, narrow places that are very tricky, metal fencing that could take a cyclist down, and lots of vibration from traffic. The first time I crossed it, I had to...

    N24HC 2016

Surprisingly, there was an unofficial mass start. Many others started earlier, but a large group of serious cyclists started together just after 8:00 AM, then broke into two groups after a few miles. I rode 26 miles alone to the start, checked in (this was the 100 Grand ride), then did a hundred...

Spring Time - Learning To Ride Time

If you get frustrated, you can buy bottles of alcohol now (I heard) that can have a calming effect and can reduce frustration. They should only be used after a ride or a crash though, not during.

Spring Time - Learning To Ride Time

Your brain can only rewire so fast. I was too impatient and frustrated at first, so then my wife said I had to learn to ride it because she had too much money tied up in it. Now I'm an old pro.

    Memorial Day Discrimination

One of the B riders told me he's been thinking about my type of bike because he is experiencing some pain from his DF. I gave him my number and said I would forward some links when he's ready. We shall see.

    Memorial Day Discrimination

Larry, there's a silver lining here. The LBS owner is registered for the N24HC. And, recumbents are not classified differently starting this year. Soooooooooo...

    Memorial Day Discrimination

Well, it finally happened. I think I got banned from the Thursday night ride. So here's the (long) story, although I'm somewhat confused and may have been victim of discriminatory backstabbing. It is also depressing, since this was a holiday, the weather was great, I was out riding fast with...

Nice catch Ratz. Jared Diamond is da man. But you missed a few things. "Sorry." The Joker, The Dark Night, 2008. Since I am on all three sides of the fence, here are some relevant quotes for all three sides. For the "uptight": "Lighten up, Francis." Stripes, 1981. For the natives: "Stupid...

Tribe implies savagery, which was used by white, European Christians to justify invading America, murdering the inhabitants, destroying their culture, and stealing their land. It was also used to justify enslavement of those considered subhuman for their own good. Ironically, it has since been...

Speed Sensor - going Wire and Magnet Less

I've been using the Garmin sensors this season and they work delightfully well. I had a lot of trouble with my previous wireless cadence, a different brand. I now use Garmin's HR, speed, and cadence transmitters and have had no problems at all.

    Sneaky Bastard

In a race, anything goes. It’s all about conservation. That means using others as much as possible to gain an advantage. Sometimes, somebody will complain. As in, “you just sat in the back while everybody else did all the work, and then you jumped out front!” Some people will complain like...

    Minneapolis Silvio

I have two chains. One goes in the slow cooker with plain old paraffin wax from Amazon when I have used it a while. I take the hot chain out of the cooker after a while, let it cool, and store it until the other chain has been used for a while. Then swap and cook again. Simple and easy.

Diet: Low Carb and Ultra Cycling

I just have to comment on the going slower to get faster thing. (This is just off the top of my head, so please excuse any errors.) Apparently, people find this counterintuitive. From an exercise physiology perspective, it makes total sense. I discovered this years ago after experimenting...
