    The current Silvio S30?

Weight matters a lot too, of course. Mine... I'm talking my personal weight here. You guys have your own diet thread and everything! So anyway, when I'm light, I can comfortably climb a staircase two treads at a time. When this happens, usually in the Fall, I can race up hills in the big ring...

noob's initial observations of silvio 1.5

Does the seat pan of your Silvio 1.5 have pre-drilled holes in it for bottle cages and stuff? Is your Ventisit pad an open weave through and through? If so, I'd try lashing the Ventisit to the seat pan with boot laces. I like boot laces. Boot laces are long, strong, don't stretch much, the...

    Carbon Fiber Fun

Making your own wheel covers? Bear in mind that the wheel you plan to cover does not need to be 'aero.' It helps if your future covered wheel is strong and stable. It helps if the wheel rim is the strong, old-fashioned boxy type and if the spoke count is not too low... see this...

    Loving it...

It was not a race... for once. I just caught these guys and we rode together. I will say that this Bacchetta driver was probably the best recumbent hill climber I've run across so far. I mean, he could climb hills and I live in a hilly area. But Bacchetta Man is an old fart: we're the same age...

Climbing and bb height, low gears

My two Cruzbikes climb hills pretty much the same way, only different: The Sofrider V1 has a short wheelbase and the seat is farther away from the road than the Vendetta's seat. I always ride my Sofrider with the 18-degree seat I built installed and this seat is more reclined than the Vendetta's...

    Loving it...

At speeds greater than 12mph, I'd start drifting forward: my stock seat was more reclined than his and my rear wheel is covered with wheel covers, while the Bacchetta was sporting, at minimum, 70mm deep-rim carbon 700c wheels. No one was racing anyone that day, so let's just say it was a draw...

Climbing and bb height, low gears

The big reason the Vendetta goes up hills more efficiently than the Silvio is that the wheelbase of the V is longer than the wheelbase of the S. I'd explain why, but I trust your brain!

    Loving it...

On some recent climbs, I was spinning uphill in my lowest gear; the guy on the diamond frame bike was mashing in a higher gear; the guy on the Bachetta Aero was in his smallest of three rings and spinning uphill at a very fast cadence. The only real difference? I was zig-zagging at the back of...

    Easier folding?

Rather than cutting slots and weakening the shock mounts, how about looking for a wingnut to replace one of the nuts on a shock mount bolt?

    Slow Ride

Going fast enough to bend Einstein's mind gets old.... Last week I resolved to do most of this Summer's riding on the local rolling, winding roads and avoid trolling the flatter, straighter roads. -For a while, anyway. This morning's ride has all the longest, steepest little local hills. The...

I see. There are trade-offs and compromises.

My first ride on my Silvio S30

Schwinn "Thrasher" is <20 USD and is surprisingly aerodynamic. It does not ventilate very well at slow speeds, so it's well-suited to both Silvio and Vendetta applications.

Climbing and bb height, low gears

Keep your baggage low and centralized. An under seat bag would be best. Mounting a loaded bag in the front triangle would give you some handling headaches, dealing with both the heavier, slower handling and with side winds. My triple front rings are useful. I learned to use them well: your...

The Low Down on Carbon Bike Tech.

I realize that real information based on actual experience will never change anyone's mind on anything ever. (Unless you live and breathe the Scientific Method!) Especially if the information has been posted on a public site by someone you will never meet and is presented by someone that you may...

Testing week in Asheville, NC June 25 - July 1

I gotta agree with the Destroyer Of All Egos Upright: The Zockra clone looks like it has lots of potential for speed. The seat recline angle is similar to the V, and that's important, for example. If LarryOz had had the ZClone outfitted to duplicate the ergonomics of his racing Vendetta, seat...

    Headache from riding V

The easiest to use, cheapest, and most available closed-cell foam? Probably yoga mats. Make the mats thicker by gluing two or more sheets of foam together with contact cement.
