    PBP 2015

Front light was a Fenix BC30, this runs on 18650 batteries which I had a spare set in the bag. The rear light was a standard LED light that you get from your LBS, again a spare set of AAA I had in the bag.

Explaining Learning to ride a recumbent to a world class DF rider who has doubts

I think your response was to the point and correct, certainly has similarities with my own experience when learning to ride my V20. Coming from a RWD recumbent (Metabike) I was in no doubt that I've have to learn to ride a recumbent (again)! If people think that riding a recumbent you'll...

Front derailleur stalk for compact chainrings

Yes I did fit a 94BCD 40/24 and it did work however:- Because of the where the stalk was there was about an inch between the cage of the mech and the chainring. Because of this I had to fit a triple mech and shifter to get the required movement in the mech in order for the chain to move chain...

Zwift - Crubike beginners guide and how to's (Q&A to get you going)

I've started using Zwift and am enjoying it. I've taken the workouts and plans from TR and used the custom workout feature in Zwift to put together the workouts from TR. Worked a treat today, the 2 hour 'Hunter' flew by, 3*20 minute sessions at SS with recovery. Geiger tomorrow.

    Stall speed of your Cruzbike?

Around 4kph for the V20 and slightly lower for the S40. There is where having the right gearing and a power meter is invaluable. The right gearing so you don't have to grind a gear at 60rpm pushing 300-320watts, this will lead to a quicker stall then pushing the same watts at 80rpm. Set up on...

    S40 for randonneuring

The S40 build I have was to take the frameset and add the bits from my CAAD12 plus some Ksyrium Pro SL Disks that I had to hand after fitting out the V20 with Carbon Cosmics. So at presentI have Ultegra hydro 22sp, 52/36 Q Rings. As I fitted the tailbox to my V20 as well I also fitted the cage...

    S40 for randonneuring

And to answer your question the bike can be set up for a Brevet - even multi day events (one of the reasons I bought it along with wanting to commute as it gives more options then a v20). The various bags that you can buy can fit the bike, Scarab bag, Moose bag etc, I done PBP in 2015 with all...

Are you Phil on over YACF? If so I have a S40 as well as a V20, my next Audax will be the South of Bucks WW. I'll bring along the S40 then and you can have a gander.

Has anyone cut their seat to allow storage in frame?

One thing to be aware of with that idea is that water does accumulate in the frame if out riding in the rain, or it does with me anyways. My guess is where the support for the headrest enters the frame that's where there is water ingress.

Has anyone cut their seat to allow storage in frame?

A picture paints a thousand words, it is a bit of tight fit but it does work. you can see where the bottle sits under the seat, which is the same for the other side.

Has anyone cut their seat to allow storage in frame?

There is a better more practical way imo. Drill two sets of holes higher up on the seat, just a couple of inches down from the neckrest. Form this point fit a water bottle cage and carry your surplus kit in a water bottle. Worked for me on LEL, with one bottle carrying my carb powder and the...

    Speculating on bikes costs

Really? Can you quantify this? I own a V20 and S40, the way I look at it is that it is a custom build and the fun, speed and comfort that I get from the bikes is worth it.

I don't just create controversy while on the Vendetta, it happen on the DF as well

Depends on what the general consensus is amongst the group, is it a group ride where no one is left behind or is it a training ride where if you get dropped then you are on your own?

Riding other recumbents and a Cruzbike?

Someone has joined the forum who may rival @ratz when it's to the art of wielding the mallet...and some correx. When I became adept at riding my V20 it was no problem reverting back to riding a RWD bent. I had a Metabike which I sold, on the final ride before sale it was a bit sketchy for the...

    LEL 2017

I started at 0745hrs and being on a recumbent carved up the route somewhat to make it more recumbent friendly. Meaning riding on mostly A roads where possible and missing out any gratuitous climbing. Progress was swift as I clocked my first sub 12hr 200 miler (in terms of moving time) as I got...

LEL my half baked ride and report

The ride starts in Loughton which is north east London, travelling up the east coast of England taking in the Humber bridge after riding over the Lincolnshire Wolds. Some more gratuitous climbing before the climb over Yad Moss. Some more flat riding to Moffat before the climb and descent to...
