LEL my half baked ride and report

As PBP is the blue riband event of the ACP, LEL is the blue riband event of Audax UK. Held every four years since 1989, the ride has grown in size with respect to numbers riding, the number of riders this year doubling from 2013. Although the route has changed a few times the principle is the...

    LEL 2017

Looking at the LEL Facebook page, none other than Marko Baloh will be there at the start line for a 0500hrs start. From what I've read he'll be riding with Chris Hopkinson (or not), he's starting at 0500hrs as well. Rider numbers are A27 & A19 respectively. Be interesting to see if the...

    LEL 2017

My experience of drivers in the UK is that they are fine, you do get the odd idiot out on the road but I think that is the same anywhere you go. My point about attitude is that in the UK, the car is very much still seen as the king of transport, the alternatives - like a bike, are slowly coming...

    LEL 2017

Some water bottles that will be filled with carb powder, some 18650 batteries for the front light and a change of kit. Looking at the weather it looks to be rain up north (no surprise there) so will pack my sealskins gloves and overshoes in the bag as well. My bag drops are quite close together...

    LEL 2017

Thanks, and yes England is still a depressing place to ride a bike. only really doing this ride because I'm a member of AUK therefore I 'should' make the effort to do the ride. Only really have got going for this ride in the past couple of weeks reading various ride reports and watching some LEL...

    LEL 2017

0745hrs. Happy with the bike set up, happy with the route, just want to get on and do the ride now.

    My new recumbent bicycle

Very nice, interesting using a rim brake on the rear wheel rather than a disk - never thought of that before. Enjoy your new ride. RE Starting uphill: Try pulling away in a gear that is two or three down from what you'd use if you was on your Furai. So if the gear you used on your Furai was...

SRAM Road and MTB Component Compatibility - S40 Build

Yes you can, the only thing that does not work is a SRAM shifter with a Shimano mech or vice versa because the pull ration is different. When I had my Optima Baron I ran a SRAM Force mech with a X9 shifter without any issues.

    Special RAAM Vendetta reveal

Very nice and good luck to everyone (including what will be a very worked crew) in just over a week and a bit. I like the bike with it's paint job and the numbers, makes me want to look into getting a a rear disk wheel.

    "The New Silvio is Coming"

Box section tubing which should soak up some of the bumps now the rear suspension gone. There's an eyelet in the frame under the seat and two separate bosses, no idea for what these are for mind.

    KOM Series in the bag

Don't sweat it, I recall watching a video where the NP for Cancellera was around 273w for the La Fleche Wallone IIRC. Good job winning the series.

I almost own a Vendetta - Learning curve?

FWIW this tax is applied to the stock value of the frame kit and not the gross price you paid. The tax you are thinking of would be about £120, thinking about it I think I paid just under this when I imported my frame back in 2015. Sorry to hear about what happened with the bike, has Kevin at...

    BHPC races

I might go over either on Sunday or Monday morning to have a look, it's a little over 10 miles from where I am. I'll treat it as a training ride and see how I get on if I do go over there. I've got a power meter so it'll be interesting to get some data on a closed circuit and how I'd fair if I...

    The Moosebag

Any ideas when this is coming to market? I've read about the prototype that has been tested. I like the Scarab bag but for day rides it feels a bit like overkill. Also the bag sitting behind the seat it's more aero and less susceptible to getting wet.

Diet: Low Carb and Ultra Cycling

Contrary to popular belief there is no such thing as good cholesterol. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2663974/ Heart attack proof is in the 50-70mg/dl range. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15172426

What I did to prepare for Sebring 2017 ---today

12 hour results look good, great to see so many CB peeps doing well. With no-one going home without doing a double ton and Jim winning the century? I'm awe struck by Maria in the RAAM 24hr race, on her own in that category and as far as I can tell at this time only the top RAAM guy has done...

    LEL 2017

Correct, unlike audaxes in Europe, in the UK the recommended route is not compulsory. So as long as your route takes in the controls at the respective times and comes in at over 1400kms then you are good to go.

    LEL 2017

Yep, as a member of AUK I got a place automatically. Mid February as I understand is when you'll be sent a log in for when you can choose your start time, order jersey/gilet etc. Will probably go for a latish morning start - 0800-0900 hrs. I live about a 40 minute ride to the start so that is...

Anyone planning on trying the M5 two-spoke wheels?

Bram is also the owner of M5 recumbents, who off the back of the success of their CHR are one of the major recumbent players. I would not worry about this company going bust anytime soon or customer support suddenly vanishing. Nice wheels, although imo these tend to be made more for the track...
