Survived the virgin ride; it was scary fun!

Don't kid yourself; getting bucked off a carousel horse hurts a lot. First of all, there's the hit onto the platform of the carousel and then, if you're lucky enough to not fall off the platform and get trampled by the carneys, you have to endure the laughter of the moms, the little kids and...

    Century!!!!

Yessir, I know, some slowing down is in order. I met a Cattrike rider at the beach Saturday. He knew who I was and about the ride. It sounds like he's planning to show up. Mark

    Century!!!!

Today was the day. I set up my first century in a few years and the first century on the Silvio. I'm extremely happy to report that the bike and the pilot both did extremely well! The day started early at Backwoods BBQ in Corona, CA. I got there a little before 7:00 AM and met our club...

Survived the virgin ride; it was scary fun!

 OK, I was going to offer the great advice of "practice, practice, practice", but Doug went into why and how... Great descriptions, too. It all comes down to spending time letting your body get used to the bike. It's a fast bike and certainly worth the bother. Mark

    Silvio Bentrider Review

I don't think the review will be posted up this week. Bryan's a little busy at Interbike and being a stage ham... Mark

Here's a bump to remind you all this is going on. I'm going to be there and hope some others can make it, as well. Mark

    Wheel flop

I'm just not a big kickstand guy. I see them as being kind of dead weight. My bikes hang up in my garage and if one of them is not hanging, I'm on it pedalling it. I can always find something to lean it against and in lieu of that, I flip it upside down and rest it on the seat back and...

    Wheel flop

Or.....better yet, take the kickstand off, throw it as far as you can and lean the bike against something. :D Mark

    Scenes of the morning commute

I was thinking.... The plaque could have been placed there as a lure. Look in those bushes for a camera blind.  Mark

    Silvio Impressions

After rereading my comments on the Silvio, I thought it only fair for an update. I've now logged about 1700 miles on my Silvios and I am still just as pleased with the bike as I ever was. So much, so that when Silvio I was wrecked, I got a replacement. Considereing I could have bought just...

    100 mile weekend

Yeah, I hear you, Harold. Saturday, we stopped for the potty and water at the bagel shop where the Riverside club starts and ends their rides. I stayed on my bike while the tiny tanks brigade went in to take care of business. A group of riders was sitting at an outside table having a bagel...

    100 mile weekend

It was a wonderful weekend for cycling here in SoCal. Very mild temps and not much wind makes for a nice time on a bike. On Saturday, we did our normal club ride. Nobody had any great ideas for riding, so I lead a group of five on one of my favorite loups. I had just over 52 miles for the...

    Off and rollin- mostly straight

Not at all, I enjoyed reading your report; sorry you had so much (and so painful) trouble getting going. Once you get it, though, you get it and it all goes easier from there. It sounds as though you're on the downhill side of the learning curve. Post often and be as windy as you like. Mark

    Commute to work

For today's commute ride, I decided to ride easy, peasey and just enjoy the ride. I must say, it was glorious! I'm the kind that likes to push hard, go fast, set better times and all that junk. I fully well realize this can be counter productive and seeing that I rode pretty hard Tuesday...

Survived the virgin ride; it was scary fun!

I'm the wrong guy to ask about bike racks! For water, there are two sets of holes on the seat back intended for bottle cages. You'll need to run to the store to get some 5m flathead machine screws and nylok nuts. Patch kits, tools, tubes and such... I have a bag that tucks up into...

    Qrings

I think you guys are making my brain hurt. Right now, I'd rather power a (round) 42 tooth chainring and a 13 tooth cog up a six percent grade than try to make sense of what you fellers are talking about.   Mark

Survived the virgin ride; it was scary fun!

I used a trainer for awhile, but not with my Silvio. I forget the brand and model, but it suspended the rear wheel and applied tension against the rim. Trainers can wear your tires out pretty fast. Keep in mind whatever trainer you select, the bike will go backwards in the trainer to what you...
