There is only one frame size so "large" must refer to the length of the chain stay. From my reading: Longer chain stays affects the height of the bottom bracket (more horizontal is typically more aerodynamic, lower bottom bracket may be easier to learn on) Maybe @Robert Holler can weigh in...

Agreed, everyone should start with flats that have good grip. Those of us who clip in suggest switching to clipped in as soon as you dare or slightly before as hindsight seems to be a universal "wish I had changed to clipped in sooner".
