Which wheel size do you like best?

I have a Quest 559 V3 and the Compass Rat Trap Pass tires fit both front and rear. Now, it is a pretty tight fit, with only several mm clearance around. The tires measure about 53 mm wide on a 21 mm rim, so do not reach the spec 2.3 in width. While a somewhat tight fit, I've use them on 40...

Which wheel size do you like best?

The 650B (27.5 in) wheels are Mavic CrossOne's, their entry level wheel. The size is ISO 584, and the inner rim width is 21 mm, so a moderately wide rim. The 26" wheels are Mavic CrossRide's. Their size is ISO 559 and the inner width is a similar 21 mm. The two wheel sizes are not...

Which wheel size do you like best?

I've used both 2.3 in wide 26" tires, and 42 mm wide 27.5/650b tires on my Quest 559 V3. The larger 650b tires seem to feel fastest and more controlled. The 2.3 in 26 in tires (Compass Rat Trap Pass) are great for unpaved limestone trails, but seem a little too flexy on pavement unless the...

    Change Quest 2.0 to 3.0?

You know, I should be more careful in my comment on this. Much of the lightness of the front on my Q559 V3 is most likely due to the fact that I also got rid of the SRAM Dual Drive front hub, while it remains on my V2. I would still assert that the pogoing goes away when on a V3 without...

    "The New Silvio is Coming"

I recently got a short chainstay from Cruzbike for a new S30 build. It has the new chainstay clamps. They are inside the BB cups, but they also just as importantly are split clamps that make it easier to remove without messing with the BB cups at all. Very nice. I figured that was one of the...

    Change Quest 2.0 to 3.0?

So, I have a Q559 V2 (with front suspension) at my in-laws in CA, while I have a Q559 V3 here in WI. The difference in ride is large. The ride is much tighter with no pogoing and the front end feels significantly lighter on the V3. I have also fitted the V3 with 650B wheels and 42 mm tires...

    Carbon seats for a Qx100

I put a Thorseat Easy on my Quest 559. The description is here: http://cruzbike.com/forum/threads/a-trail-quest-or-q650b.11010/#post-121674 It's a little out of date since I've continued to tweak things, but the seat is the same. I don't see why you couldn't go with the Sport. Another...

    QX100 advice on tires/wheels?

On my ver3 Quest 559, I routinely run with 650b (27.5 in) wheels and 42 mm wide tires. Using wide supple tire from Compass. The bike seems a lot smoother and faster than it's original configuration. I also changed the handlebars to drop bars. I assume the QX100 geometry is the same as the...

    Your Advice Would be Appreciated

Yes, the principle applies to the "utility" QX100. It does help climb hills, per my experience with a Quest559 (the QX100 precursor model). The Silvio S30 has the same very stiff front end as the Vendetta so I guess would be a similar climber to the Vendetta, but users more experienced on...

    11 speed drive train

I should have mentioned I used this setup for commuting over the past 4-6 months, and for 30-90 mile day trips. Gear range is sufficient for both uses in our mild hill country in WI.

    11 speed drive train

I put a 1x11 Rival 1 drivetrain on my Quest. Using a Rival 1 long-cage derailleur, pc-1130 chain, and Rival brifters. The cassette is a Sunrace 11-42 11-speed. No problems whatsoever. Very quiet and easy shifting. I've used this with both 26in and 650b wheels.

    Madison, WI Cruzbike owners

I am in Madison but did not run across your post until today. Have a modified Q559 (a "Q650b") that I use for commuting and trail rides. I also know of one other recumbent rider in Madison that was planning to buy an S30 frame set. Haven't checked with him to see if he got it built up yet...

    Q559

I should have responded earlier. Sorry. Yep, I did the LSD ride in Chicago, two years in a row. It's a great event. Ray

    Q559

I have an original Q559 wheelset (with the SRAM Dual Drive) and all of the drivetrain except the elliptical crankset that I am preparing to put up for sale. It will effectively convert your QX100 to a Quest 559 but without the elliptical chainring. The wheels are in excellent shape and I just...

    Tire pressure talk

This finding of suspension losses at higher pressures has been talked about by Jan Heine and the Compass Cycle people for several years. It is good to see it confirmed. I've started to take it seriously with my Q650b, and so far the (anecdotal) results seem pretty surprising. I'm running 584...

Quest 1.0 upgrade query - Brakes

The TRP Spyre self-centering mechanical brakes work great on my V3 Quest. Quiet, strong, and easy centering without going to hydraulics.. Super Slim indicates they'll also work on a V1. However, if you are keeping long-pull brake levers, you'll want to consider the TRP Spyke instead. Spyke...

    a Trail Quest, or Q650b ...

Rick, thanks for the comments. Just to clarify: the seat pictured is a Thorseat carbon Easy model, not a Volae Carbon Comfort. However, the mount holes in my Thorseat are exactly the same as those in a stock Volae seat, so the Volae fits readily to the bike. I have a Volae seat here also...

    a Trail Quest, or Q650b ...

So, with the first tests under my belt, and a feeling that this is a keeper, I upgraded some parts to make it more functional. Version 2: Q650b Drivetrain upgrade Changes from Version 1 (and reasons): Drivetrain: change to 1 x 11 SRAM 11-speed road group - Provides an extra lower...

    a Trail Quest, or Q650b ...

The lower clamp is there to stiffen the boom assembly a bit. On the Cruzbike video about adjusting the QX100, Robert noted that the front derailleur cable stop slightly pinched the TFT and may have to be loosened to move the boom. So I shaved the lip off a Salsa seat clamp and put it there...
