    Dark beer

Any beer you can't see thru is my kinda beer. I like most Stouts & Porters. I'm really excited that our local brewery has introduced a Chocolate Stout. Unfortunately it is probably more in the style of a "California Stout" but since it is the only brewery in Alabama, I'm willing to give...

    Heater

LOL! Don't need it here...72F today. Windy like crazy though.

Since we have no off topics area

Right there with ya. Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, etc., etc., to all my new friends in the Cruzbike community. May y'all spend way too much time on your Cruzbikes next year! :D

    Mark's letter to Santa

True. It appears that the sock in VeloLEV's example is quite short and merely wrinkles a bit during a turn. A long sock will sag a good bit...but as you point out, normal riding doesn't require huge steering input. I ride with the chain dropped on the Baron and rarely drag the wheel on...

    Its About Time

Steamroller: Go here: http://www.surlybikes.com/steamroller.html It's a purpose-built fixed gear frame. Way cool.

    Mark's letter to Santa

Yeah, although the lycra sock is light and stretchy, it needs to be stretched tight enough to not flap about in the wind. Having it stretched tight will impede steering movement...not a good thing. The coroplast tailbox is an excellent idea and easy to do (and easy to change around). Go for it!

    Where do you find...BB plugs?

Don't get me started on Ace Hardware! The one only 6 blocks from my house had everything including a couple "little old men" who knew where every screw and nut and garden accessory piece was hiding and what would fix whatever you had broken. Went out of business last year...couldn't compete...

    Aero Disc Covers

Yeah, I ride with a guy who has a disk on the back of his VK2. A good gust will drive him about 3m sideways before he can recover....wouldn't be pretty in traffic! However, it takes a pretty healthy gust to do that...and if gusty weather is predicted, he simply either rides another bike or...

    Where do you find...BB plugs?

LOL! I would have never looked at furniture glides. Too much engineer brain here...I would have been searching the Cap Plug catalogs...McMaster Carr...Grainger... Thanks guys. Mark, you always up and online at 4am? :D

    Where do you find...BB plugs?

Sunday, I lost one of the plastic plugs that go in the donor bike's BB holes. Both are just barely held in and I had it in my mind to fix them in either with some hot-glue or perhaps a light thru-bolt. Forgot...and now one is gone. Anybody got a good source for a replacement? Home Depot...

    How Low Can you Go?

Re: How Low Can you Go? Camera hijack! Long! I got "scoffed" at the local coffeehouse Sunday morning. A local wag watched me ride up and started asking questions. Although he was interested and not at all 'snarky', he made the "too bad all recumbents have crazy drivelines" comment. I promptly...

Test ride...Marc's conversion finally rolling along!

test ride III...the coffee shop. Yes, I'm quite sure I'll internalize all the motions...they're not so goofy that I have to re-invent things but different enough to require some mileage. Yup, no different than playing an instrument, you have to practice certain things until they're internalized...

Test ride...Marc's conversion finally rolling along!

Test ride II, the next 8 miles... Sheesh...another cold day. Last year it was in the 70's all thru Dec... I threw on the ol' Merino's (top and bottom) and went for a spin around 2pm today. 48F but without much wind. This is ride #2 for the Conversion and the first with complete and functional...

    Softrider - fork not 'suspended'

Suspense no more, suspended! Woo-hoo! Glad it works. Hope you get out and get pedalling...'cause I can't until the weather gets better. They're predicting snow tonight...

    Campagnolo Silvio Component bundle

I'm not takin' that bet. The riding position on the Conversion just 'feels' more efficient. I have been looking for a cheap 700c wheelset to use on the Conversion so I'll have a better feel for what I might like come Silvio time. Oh yeah, I have started haunting ebay for Silvio componentry...

    Campagnolo Silvio Component bundle

Well...I did the "tooth count" last night and then today did the Sheldon Brown "Gear Inch" comparison between what I have on the Baron vs what I have on the Cruzbike Conversion. Cruzbike Conversion has a 52-40 up front and a 14-16-18-20-22-24-28 (7sp) rear w/26X1.25 wheel. Baron has a road...

    Softrider - fork not 'suspended'

Hmmm. I suspect (as Doug said) that you haven't enough mass to activate (or break free) the fork. On my Rockshox, I'll bet I had to surpass 200lbs to get it to break free...but once it was moving, it now takes much less to actuate. When you have the fork out of the bike, invert the fork and...

    Softrider - fork not 'suspended'

Here, all holidays suspended until further notice...or Christmas shows up. ;) No telling what kind of holidays they have in OZ, their heads being below their feet and all. Just from the looks of the shock on the Softrider, I would say it has a spring up in the head-tube much like my...

    Softrider - fork not 'suspended'

From what I can glean on this site, the Softrider suspension should have ~40mm of travel but the spring is noted as "extra stiff" so perhaps you may need to put a good deal of weight on it to see any movement. I've no idea if it has a preload setting (as many do). Also, the moving bits in...

    Campagnolo Silvio Component bundle

Yeah, that's kinda why I'm being pretty passive in my commentary...I don't yet have 15mi on the Conversion (heck it was only 44F yesterday with a good stiff breeze...probably less than zero wind chill...I stayed inside!). While I might not ascribe it to the FWD, I felt the change in position...
