another inquiry about belt drives and NuVinci

Gates Carbon Drive IMHO Fitting a Gates Carbon Drive to a Cruzbike isn't possible without major re-engineering. Cruzbikes have vertical dropouts so there is no easy way of adjusting the belt tension. Bikes with a Gates usually have horizontal dropouts or an eccentric bottom bracket so the...

    Tight Turns

Figure 8s Trekster, I would practice turning figure eights in an empty car park with a good flat surface. You should find that doing figure eights is less likely to give you vertigo than turning in circles. Start with large figure eights and gradually tighten your turns. I'm always surprised...

Terracycle Fastback Carbon Slim Seatback Bag

Safety advice is always appreciated Hi John I'm always happy to receive your safety advice. Thanks. I've just checked. The seat post is inserted two and a half inches into the frame. Here is another picture showing the position of the Carbon Slim Seatback Bag's bottom and middle...

Terracycle Fastback Carbon Slim Seatback Bag

I've fitted a Terracycle Fastback Carbon Slim Seatback Bag to my Q559's seat. It is ideal for carrying a few tools, a map, a jacket and such stuff, for use on day rides. The bag has six straps with velcro hooks on one side and loops on the other. I found no need for the included spider pad...

    Front mudguard/fender for Q 559

SKS Beavertail I used the front mudguard from an SKS Beavertail set. I already had the set in hand. I did remove some of the surplus metal from the bracket however. I went with the Topeak DeFender M2 at the rear.

    Tommaso a good donor?

IMHO That Tommaso Imola would IMHO That Tommaso Imola would be a poor candidate for a conversion. The top tube is way too high. I would go with Phil's (floridabike) suggestion instead.

    Recumbent Trike

Raptotrike module The guy at Raptobike posted a blog, a couple of years ago, showing an experimental tilting rear wheels module for his front-wheel drive recumbent bikes. The module was designed to be retro-fitted. There is a video at the link. I don't think that he ever made a production...

    Front mudguard/fender for Q 559

Aesthetics/weight Hi BK I want to be able to remove the mudguards (fenders) quickly either for folding or just for aesthetic reasons/weight. I've removed the folding carrier on my Q3 for example. Yes, the Q3 has plenty of clearance under the steering tube at the front.

    Front mudguard/fender for Q 559

I've been thinking about getting mudguards (fenders) for my new Q V3 559. Has anyone tried the Topeak DeFender RC1 front mudguard? Sadly, so far, I've only found it as part of a set with the RC11 rear mudguard which wouldn't work on a Q 559 IMHO. I guess that I'll just have to buy the...

    Impromptu bag hanging

Repost the pictures please John. Hi John I'm looking at ways to carry a few items for day rides on my new Q V3 559. The pictures in your initial post have "gone missing". Could you please reattach them? I've removed my Q's rack as I don't want to carry the extra weight of a rack bag...

Sofrider and Quest incremented to V3

Change of plans I've decided to rejoin the Cruzbike community, John. I guess that after my questions about the Quest V3.0, you wont be too surprised that I've just ordered a Q V3.0 559 rather than a Silvio? I believe that the Q 559 will suit my needs best and is an upgrade from the Sofrider...

    Quest v3.0 559 26" Weight

What is the weight of the new v3.0 559 26" Quest please? Is it still 33lbs 8 oz as stated on the main Quest page or is that for the v2? Quote from main Quest page:- "Weight: 33 lbs 8 oz with all stock accessories (rack, pedals, etc.)"

Sofrider and Quest incremented to V3

Different tire at rear of Sofrider/Quest V3? As the Sofrider and Quest V3 have rear suspension then maybe a more conventional tire would work well in the rear rather than a Big Apple? I'm not in the market for a Sofrider or Quest V3, John. You may remember, that I had a Sofrider some...

Sofrider and Quest incremented to V3

Big Apple Tires? Hi John The Schwalbe Big Apples are available in 2.00, 2.15 and 2.35 widths so the first two sizes should work fine. Will the rear forks on the Quest and Sofrider V3 accommodate up to 26 x 2.25 tires too?

Sofrider and Quest incremented to V3

Big Apple Tires? JT, in your blog post, you say, "Also, by revising to a conventional fork we have been able to support larger tire diameters." Will the new Sofrider and Quest front fork support the use of Schwalbe Big Apple tires now? For folks that are worried about the loss of the front...

    Trek 1000 conversion?

I searched for "Trek 1000" on I searched for "Trek 1000" on Google but all that I could find were "bog standard" diamond frame racing bikes. If your 2003 Trek 1000 is one of those then IMHO a conversion wouldn't be feasible. You may find the following link (below) from Cruzbike founder John...
