    Loose Headset

I don't get all this angst about the headset. Cruzbike will sell you a nonsuspended fork, you'll replace the old one, give it a ride, and wonder why you wasted all this time on the suspension fork. This stuff is all over this forum. You're not the first one to go through this. Am I missing...

    Hurricane Florence passing through

Great video! Were your chains waxed or oiled? An opportunity for a post to the long chain-waxing thread! Seriously, I saw some other videos of Lumberton where the folks weren't having nearly as much fun ...

    Loose Headset

The looseness of the spring shock is part of a series of flexy things on the front triangle of the early Qs. All of them steal some of your pedaling effort (especially when you really need it, like going uphill), and were fixed with complete redesign of the Q45. But substantial upgrades can be...

Here's the Tolhurst diagram, saving you the trouble and putting this where we can find it easily.

    Loose Headset

Looking through my old files, here are 2 pages of instructions from Diacompe/Diatech, showing the order of the various rings. Might be useful to have around if you're taking it apart. But it doesn't show the guts of the shock (see the Tolhurst diagram linked above). By the way, @agfrag if...

    Loose Headset

Looks like @super slim has. See the thread "Quest front suspension" in late Dec 2017: http://cruzbike.com/forum/threads/quest-front-suspension.12121/ [Note, edited to correct, thanks @agfrag ] Also "Q2 front shock rebuild?" in Sep 2017...

    Stock Riser height?

Mine was like the photo in the current thread "Cruzbike Quest Q559 - $700"

    Stock Riser height?

Huh! When I got my Q45 I sold my Q559 and similarly included a bunch of stuff including two risers (I'd call these "stems"). But it was to someone else. I don't have the Q (version 2) anymore so I can't answer for sure, but I don't think either of the ones you mention were stock. My bike came...

My first Recumbent, my first week...

I replaced the stock bars that came with my Q45 (same knee-hitting problem) with FSA "Metropolis" bars that have more rise (knee clearance) and more sweep. That puts my hands about 3 inches more forward, giving me a more open elbow reach and stronger pull. A definite speed increase uphill...

My first Recumbent, my first week...

Welcome. Check the Quest forum for ideas for mods. We're mostly a bunch of people who like to tinker with bikes ... and talk about it. For learning to relax into it, try to gradually loosen your grip as much as possible. You'll find you can steer very naturally with your feet. But for...

I'm in. Might be walking that 15% grade ... depends on how long it is. See you there. Billy K

    SeaBum 2018

I like @Bill K 's 3rd idea: cross one bridge and back the other. Medina back streets are so pleasant to ride on: smooth, nearly carless. The 520 trail is beautiful, but those joints are really a deterrent to going fast.

    Rotor Q-ring advice

Thanks. I was just deciding to not follow this thread any more, but you gave me a bit of optimism at the end. I'm still not gonna read more it, but at least I'm leaving with a smile.

    Loose Headset

Here's a rather long discussion of adjusting the Diatech headset. I wrote it for the guy who bought my bike. ------------------ If there is play in the headset (and this will need adjusting after months/years), there's a Cruzbike video about this (), but please read my comments below as the...

    WTB Bullhorn Handlebars

Every time you add a joint, you add flex. The big difference between the early Quests and the Q45 (and S,V) is those extra joints between the BB and your hands. That wasted some fraction of your work: bending metal instead of moving pedals. I think the extra connection in this otherwise-nice...

    Fenders for a Q-45

My too-far front fender is forced by: - The mounting bracket at the fork crown - Wedging it between the arms of the chainstay at the front (for extra stability) I probably could fashion a longer mount at the fork crown ... @onmyback , it's very easy to get a thin strip of aluminum and screw it...

After practice riding and my first 100km of commuting

There's another thread on fender mounts for the Q45. I just posted some photos of my mounts. I'd be leery of attaching the rear fender to a rack, since the wheel moves with the swingarm but the rack doesn't.

    Fenders for a Q-45

Yup. Two rear fenders. You want the one on the front wheel to come forward enough so water doesn't spray onto your chain and chainring. Fortunately there is a shop here with large bins of secondhand parts. I got these for $5 each. Photos attached of my handmade mounting brackets. Both wheels...

Seattle Area Uber-Meet : Parker Meetup

Yeah, it was great. 6 of us showed up (including a Q45 - mine - and an S40) plus the Parkers, and we had a fine time talking bike stuff and eating tacos. They were extremely forthcoming about the bike biz, and very down to earth. Altogether an excellent evening. Too bad you couldn't make it...

@Lief , @Maria Parker . Is this still on? Or did we decide that it conflicted with their taco night? I will come, but please let me know if this is happening. Billy
