Seattle Area Uber-Meet : Parker Meetup

Hi @Lief . I'll try to make it, though it doesn't look like an easy place to ride to (on my new Q45!). I'll definitely be sweaty after riding up that hill. But I guess the Parkers are used to sweaty riders ...

Want to buy - Seat pads for Quest 451

I'm 5'8", but I don't know my thoracic vertebrae from my left tibia. However, when I ride I'm taking weight off my back by pulling on the bars, which I think is the key insight of MBB; where its strength comes from. On a regular recumbent your lower back is cupped in the seat and the power...

Want to buy - Seat pads for Quest 451

I have a similar experience with my new Q45, and as I had a Q2 (just sold) I took the opportunity to try the Q2 seat pads on the Q45. They do fit fine, but I had no better luck with recumbutt. No difference in that category. What I did then was to cut a piece of stiff foam and put it as a lumbar...

Seattle Area Bent UberMeet (SEABUM) - focus Cruzbike T50

Wow. Saw this thread pop up and thought it was announcing another event this year. Got as far as trying to put it into my calendar until I realized Sep 10 is a Monday and that didn't seem right. Yeah that was fun. Let's do it again.

Is there a prefered way to fall?

It always happens too fast to react. Anyone able to choose which part of themselves takes the brunt of a fall is a better man than I. Well, maybe at zero speed you can choose, but anything above about 15mph, you're gonna go where the physics is sending you.

Quest 2/559 upgraded to QX100. $900. Seattle area

@Chris Bednarowicz - Please check messages from me ("Conversations" tab or "Inbox" at top of the page) if you're still interested. I left some detailed responses there. Billy K

Kind air shock A5-RR1 on QX100 - suggested pressures?

I weigh 170 and had the main chamber at 125 and the negative one at 100. I read that somewhere and it worked well for me. Note the rubber o-ring around the piston. Push it up to the top so when you put weight on it, or bounce over a bump, it slides down. That will measure how much the piston...

    Diatech Headset Adjustment

A crucial point (not adequately explained in the Holler video) is that the boom (pivot) clamp must hold down the headset top ring. That's what keeps it from loosening. Namely, you push down and tighten the boom clamp so the top ring is "almost tight", then tighten the conical top ring to set the...

    Road bike vs. recumbent comparison

Actually, a possible disadvantage of recumbents compared to DF bikes is that flatulence is directed forward and slows you down, whereas on a DF you get a "burst" of speed. I'm surprised this hasn't come up earlier on this forum ... we discuss everything else.

    First Crash On the Vendetta

@RojoRacing is right: coasting or pedaling very lightly is more unstable. A steady push on the pedals (e.g. going up a slight incline) is for me the easiest. That's how I learned to ride no-hands. And if you're rolling your back on the seat then you haven't yet gotten the rhythmic pull on...

Quest 2/559 upgraded to QX100. $900. Seattle area

OK, here's some detail photos (@Chris Bednarowicz , @igorraven ). These are high-res (too large to post on the forum, so on a google photo album, link below). You can zoom in to see every little scratch. As you can see, the bike is in commuted-on-last-week condition, no special cleaning. Many...

Quest 2/559 upgraded to QX100. $900. Seattle area

I'm not fixed on local sale, but it has two big advantages : - The buyer can see and inspect the actual bike, try it out, know exactly what they're getting. - Less work of packing it up for safe shipping. I have a good box it will fit in, but would have to find and cut foam pieces to hold it in...

    T50 vs Q45 boom stiffness?

Yeah, I've thought of this kind of thing myself, but always come up on the inescapable fact that every additional joint introduces flex (including glue). That's the big difference between the Q2 and Q45: three joints between the BB and the handlebars vs one. I have to question @dtseng above...

Quest 2/559 upgraded to QX100. $900. Seattle area

I'm on the road (again, unfortunately without bike), home late Monday. I'll post more pics (any special requests?) later this week. I could ship if necessary, and I saved the box the Q45 came in to do it. But if you want a bike for traveling, you probably want the Q with small wheels (401?)...

    Full Fenders for Commuting

I'm on the road (again, unfortunately not with bike) but I since have a better solution: two rear (i.e. full) rear DF fenders. That's what's on the Q I'm selling, and I've put similar on the Q45. The front requires some kluge for the front mount for the front, and the Q45 for the front mount...

    How to Pedal Steer

Speaking as someone who rides no-hands very often, for long distances, and enjoys the hell out of it ... I am still noticeably slower than when pulling on the handlebars in the usual Cruzbike way. Yes, I do it with the slight outward push on the pedals as @dtseng says, but that is work not...

Quest 2/559 upgraded to QX100. $900. Seattle area

Quest 2/559, upgraded to (approximately) QX100. $900 Lovingly maintained for more than 9000 miles: Excellent condition. I'm selling it because I got a Q45. Very minor cosmetic damage appropriate to these miles. No crashes (couple of low-speed or no-speed drops while I was learning to ride it)...

    Houston I have a Problem

Here's a photo showing my riding position (also for @Eric Winn ). The seat pan is as far back as it will go, the slider-handlebar joint is as far forward as it will go, and the bars rotated forward as far as possible without excessive wrist rotation. Like @Bentnail , I don't want to lean the...

    Houston I have a Problem

Yes! That describes my situation exactly (including the earlier part about loving the bike, but ...). I wrote earlier about being slower uphill (than my previous Q2), despite the stiffer front end. I'm convinced that it is the closed-up arm position that keeps me from using my upper body...
