    Comfort on S40?

...a Q45 for 500 miles but sold it due to its weight, the way it aggravated my previous neck problems when countering the pedal-steer, and recumbutt in spite of a Ventisit pad. Fast forward a couple of years on a very comfortable P-38, and I'm thinking about an S40. How is the S40 regarding...

    V20 frameset for sale

Very interested! I never talked myself into an S40 because of a combination of an obsession with speed and concerns about recumbutt. I’m well over 6’ tall so the long chain stay is perfect. Sent you a DM to discuss shipping etc.

Rear vs under seat pannier racks?

I probably wouldn't have recumbutt at that weight either.

Rear vs under seat pannier racks?

I'm 5'5", about 135 lbs. I got a Q45 last year, to replace a Quest with similar seat angle I'd had for 10 years before that. I can ride a couple of hours on the Q45 with no problems. So it has surprised me that so many riders mention recumbutt on a more-reclined bike.

Rear vs under seat pannier racks?

Outside riding I do not experience RB. Inside on the trainer, I do with the stock seat. A Thor seat could remedy that.

Rear vs under seat pannier racks?

I have an S40 and had recumbutt issues at first. What I did was extend the seat pan all of the way towards the front and then added hard foam at the tip of the pan. After I did this I do not have any issues. I weigh about 173 pounds.

Rear vs under seat pannier racks?

Maybe. I weigh 130 pounds and my recumbutt on the S40 was bad enough that I sold the bike. I am glad to hear stories of people not having this issue. I wish I was one of them.

Rear vs under seat pannier racks?

It all rides on your weight. If you are a light rider, you won't likely have recumbutt. I get it bad on the S40 but I weigh 220 lbs.

Rear vs under seat pannier racks?

I rode a few thousand miles on S40 in the past few years, including 400 mi western WA tour last year. No recumbutt issue.

Can to Can you share pictures of your S40 with those 26x46 tires?

Rear vs under seat pannier racks?

I've been looking at the S40 as an eventual replacement for my S30, but the cries of "recumbutt" in the forums have made me hesitate. I realize people who are happy with their bikes don't comment "it doesn't give me recumbutt," but it's still nice to have someone explicitly say they aren't...

Are you touring now? If so, are you blogging like the perimeter trip?

Rear vs under seat pannier racks?

Good to hear that the S40 doesn't give you recumbutt. For me, that's the only issue with the S40. In every other respect, I consider the S40 the best touring bike you can buy. I was happy with the CB rear and front racks. If you ship the bike, remove the racks before loading into the bike...

Rear vs under seat pannier racks?

...a post from last year because I'm considering using my S40 instead of Q45 for an upcoming hilly 8 day tour. My problem with the Q was the recumbutt, which was occurring after about 15 minutes toward the end of the last 2 week trip (I was fairly upright). I've been out on the S40 a few times...

My new S40! First impression and a few questions

...I am now getting the hang of the SRAM shifting and also the position of the brifter on the bar. Most surprising is that there is no recumbutt pain. As I mentioned in a post about a recent bike trip, the pain in a fairly upright position on my Q was almost unbearable towards the end. I am now...

Albany-Buffalo-Albany: A ride on the Erie Canal Trail

...hope to address the things that need improvement before then. So, what do I need to improve or modify? First and foremost is the dreaded recumbutt. During shorter (up to 4 hours) rides before the trip I'd have some discomfort, but I was able to address it by stretching in the seat or getting...

    Do I need an S40?

I have an S40. I ride on tarmac most of the time and I can keep up (mostly) with my roadbike friends. Yes, it can be pretty fast when equipped with road specific components. If I was to ride gravel and relatively bumpy trails I think my speed will significantly reduce and so would the comfort...

    Do I need an S40?

...I was the only Cruzbike. I wasn’t the fastest or the slowest. i can’t speak to whether the S40 would be faster as I’ve never tried one. Regarding recumbutt - my solution was a Thor seat reclined to about 35 degrees. That puts most of my weight on my back rather than my butt - no more...
