    Seat Mod

Carbon fiber caution: Carbon fiber is conductive. One of my old customers is a carbon fiber manufacturing facility. I used to repair their high voltage power supply, which used to short out a lot due to errant airborne carbon fiber filaments. So, keep your workplace clean and well ventilated...

    Amateur aerodynamics

Try it! I always mock things up with cardboard and gaffers tape. Instead of my painting word pictures, just go look up some photos of the Velokraft NoCom. See how the frame frames the wheels? "Splitter plates." You know, splitting the slipstream. On my Sofrider, the stock paint has lots of...

    Amateur aerodynamics

Jim Parker wrapped a rear V triangle with plastic sheeting and he has not published anything further. My guess is that there is no advantage... and here's why. I have experimented a lot with fairing round tubes and round tubing responds well to fairing. Those tubes on the rear of the V are...

    Crest of a Hill

http://cruzbike.com/forum/threads/evolving-wooden-chainstay.8558/ http://cruzbike.com/forum/threads/sofrider-v1-mods.4959/ Here's a tongue-in-cheek post on BROL, comparing my bikes to each other. It's useful and I'm being honest, but I had fun posting it in hostile territory. Yeah, I'm a...

    Crest of a Hill

Mention the acronym, 'BROL' and I see red, so this is all your doing.... I have quite a lot of personal experience with hills, bottom bracket height and seat angle. Alright, so I learned to love custom seats and I make my own to save enough money for food and rent and stuff. On my old...

    Where are all the recumbents?

That's a nice low racer, Mr. Larry! The low ones are fun to learn to balance. When you're up to speed on that bike, try comparing running times with the suspension to running times with the suspension locked out. To my eye, it looks like rear pogoing under power will suck some energy.

    Get your lemonade !!!!!

I'm mildly interested in the fork and the swing arm: the rest of the bike, not so much. The last production Sofrider weighed 34.5 pounds and it was equipped with two front rings, front derailleur & V-brakes. This limited edition V2K framed sofrider clone is built with just a single front ring...

Need a Skewer to Fit the Drive Wheel to my Trainer

O.K., so, the purpose of the trainer skewer I found was to mount the V onto the trainer. I wanted, very badly, to swap out the bikes every now and then; test the V's drivetrain under power right next to all of my tools and out of the weather. The legalese that came with the skewer emphasizes...

Need a Skewer to Fit the Drive Wheel to my Trainer

V1.5 front (drive) wheel skewer is 170mm I searched, off-and-on, for weeks and ramped-up the search to a double-serious effort a few weeks ago. Today I received my new skewer in the mail. It's a: Cannondale Extended Rear QR Kit 130/135mm KA048 Part number 12XS1...

After 4500 miles on my V I've developed "tennis elbow"

Your elbows are injured. Stop injuring them. How? Learn to ride without your elbows. Learn to ride with your legs, hips, head and even the frame of your bike doing the steering. You may have to ride something else, something that keeps you off of your V 2.0, if you can't not use your elbows...

    Haters going to hate

BROL . . . -meh- Like Dr. Jim Parker, I researched recumbents online and independently came to the conclusion that Cruzbike was mechanically efficient, competitively priced and, therefore, the only bike that made sense. I bought it online, sight unseen, from some weirdo in N.C. who was selling...

Skyline Drive (Shenandoah NP, VA) on a CruzBike Conversion Kit

Aside from the extra weight that USS Yiggy has to carry, she also has front and rear suspension. The Ridley Fenix Carbon bike that you rode is unsuspended. Experience has shown me that the suspension on my Sofrider V1 absorbs a portion of the meager power that I make. My Sofrider always...
