    A simpler Silvio?

I'm with you on that line of thinking Kavman. I have often thought there should be room in the Cruzbike stable for a true touring machine. Something like the QX100 but without the rear shock. This would allow for a rigid rear rack to be attached to the frame. A rear shock is not needed in any...

    Boom - QX100

Mona, you say your go fast bike is a RWD recumbent, presumably the Metabike you mention? (Interestingly the Metabike looks like a RWD version of the Silvio) You may find, with time & practice, that the Cruzbike becomes your go fast bike of choice. I have a faired Lightning P-38 and it doesn't...

    Silvio 1.0 for Sale

Nice looking older Silvio at a decent price. You might want to list it in the For Sale part of the forum though.

Bike Porn for Ratz and Friends

One who consistently humbles me is local legend, John "Rocket Man" Williams, so called because of his super fast, 3 wheel Velomobiel. Man, that cat can even stay ahead of me on the climbs which is doubly humbling considering the 75 lb weight of his vehicle.

Bike Porn for Ratz and Friends

Great ride reports Joe. And excellent writing skills too making it easy to follow along in the narrative. My usual ride group is much more casual but a rider hunched over on his geek bars passed me today and I had to administer a Cruzbike spanking to the young pup. A thing that always amuses me...

    Elevated Seat ??

Stargate, I feel your pain and I have been there myself. I too, modified my seat back with yoga mat foam. As I became more familiar with the bike I gradually took out all the foam from the seat. I still keep a wedge of foam in the head rest but I may eventually get rid of that too. It takes time...

There is nothing as much fun as f*cking up a roadie pace line with a super efficient bike.

Rack solution for the Silvio 2.1

The ExtraWheel trailer seems like it would satisfy all your requirements. It takes the same size wheel as the bike, can carry only 2 panniers and the fork is adjustable in width so it should be easy to attach to the Silvio's rear wheel...

    Tannus Solid Tires

Solid tires of one type or another have been around since bikes were invented. Every few years another brand comes on the market only to vanish after a short time. The idea for a flat proof, indestructible tire just keeps rolling around.

XQL Q-rings .vs. Reg Q-ring .vs. Circular Chain Rings

Thanks for compiling that data Larry. Your more science based measurements match my own "seat of my pants" opinion. Six years ago I bought 2 sets of Q rings, one set for my P-38 and one for my wife's Giro, after reading the breathless accounts of their superior performance on the BROL forum. I...

    Climbing and Sprinting technical talk

I call the technique I use to go fast on my Silvio "yanking and cranking". I push hard on the pedals while alternately pulling back on the bars. This can cause the bike to drift a little from side to side. Maybe I am using Jim's technique without being aware of it? By the end of a hard ride I...

    First cycling vacation coming soon

Suz, it doesn't rain much here in the summer. Western Oregon has a Mediterranean climate - cool, wet winters and warm, dry summers. Eastern part of the state is now hot & dry. Slick bicycle tires work fine year round here unless you happen to be on dirt trails.

Water Bottle Mounts on Silvio 2

For anyone thinking of mounting a water bottle cage on the boom I did it without drilling into the boom by using 2 pieces of double sided, thick sticky tape between the bottle & boom where the bolts would normally go. I then secured the bottle cage down with 2 zip ties. The trick here is to get...

    Silvio seat

I initially found the seat angle on my Silvio 2.0 to be too extreme also. I actually found it more difficult to adjust to the laid back seat angle than to the MBB design. I experimented with yoga mat foam padding added to the seat & head rest to bring me into a slightly more upright position...
