    Fairing on a Quest

I put an old Zzipper fairing on my Quest without difficulty. The link below shows photos of an early (crude prototype) version of this, but it will give you the idea. I keep meaning to take photos of the new, spiffier mounts, but never got around to it so these will have to do...

    First Quest crash

In case anyone wants to know what happens when you go down on a Quest at speed ... And to get the important stuff out of the way, the bike is fine! I was on my way to work, on a slightly downhill straightaway going probably 20mph. A car was double-parked, and the street was otherwise clear...

    Windwrap fairing anyone?

Zzipper fairing on Quest I put an old Zzipper fairing on my Quest without difficulty. The link below shows photos of an early (crude prototype) version of this, but it will give you the idea. I keep meaning to take photos of the newer, spiffier mounts, but never got around to it so these will...

    Locking Cruzbike's

Locking a Quest I use a U-lock through the space between the rear shock and the swingarm joint. It's not enough for leaving the bike for a long time in unattended locations, because a 6mm plus a 10mm allen wrench can dismantle the swingarm (if you know how to do it), but it keeps amateurs...

Is the Quest 2 front shock adjustable?

Is the front shock onthe Quest 2 adjustable? I notice that mine has virtually no travel (couple of mm at most), and it bottoms out with a hard stop on most bumps. Is there something I need to adjust? How can it be checked? BK

    Climbing

I haven't ridden a Phantom, but have many years on various recumbents, and commute daily in Seattle where we have lots of hills. I've done this on a Quest for the past 4 months. My experience is that the Quest is a great climber for shallow/moderate grades (up to 5-8%). I maintain a higher...

    New Conversion

wheel flop is something different, but ... "Wheel flop" to me is something different (the tendency of some bikes to oversteer because of too much trail), but I definitely notice the sheer mass of the front end when turning at low speed. Manuevering through crowds is a lot harder because of the...

Couple of question in regard to riding recumbent?

high cadence! no pedal mashing! Hi Fatall - I learned the hard way that you must ride recumbents with a high cadence and never never never mash the pedals. With your back against the seat, fundamentally you can push recumbent pedals harder than on an upright, where the potential push is...

    Sofrider or Quest

Sofrider vs Quest Hi Charles - I've only ridden a Quest (and that only for 2 months), but I was facing the same choice and went with the Quest. FWIW: * The disk brakes are great. Does the Sofrider have the appropriate braze-ons to mount disk brakes? If not, you won't be able to do...

Reconciling contradictory advice on riding Quests

With 2 months and about 300 miles on my Quest, I'm trying to reconcile two apparently contradictory pieces of advice: 1) Relax your arms and shoulders. It took me a couple of weeks to let go of the death grip I had on the handlebars, muscling the bars through turns. I started feeling...

    Quest 559 experiences and modifications

How would we buy the heavy-duty rack? The rack looks good. But I don't find it on the online store (not under Quest, nor under accessories). Do we have to go to bricks and mortar online store Perth to buy it? BK

    Quest 559 experiences and modifications

I cut the fender, not the bike! Dave.G - Love the way you modified the bike! I may try your seatbag mount. Simple! I'd be inclined to attach the bag through holes or slots cut in the wood stays, using straps and clips (what's a "popper"?). That would avoid having the stays inside the bag and...

    Adjusting the rear suspension

Sit on it, man, sit on it! Just turn it several turns in a direction. Sit on the bike and bounce. Then turn it back plus a few more turns in the other direction. Repeat the bouncing. The adjustment makes a big difference and it will be obvious.

    Chainring and Suspension suggestion help?

The rear suspension is adjustable Hi Fatall - forgot to mention that the rear suspension is adjustable by turning the outer body shell. I weigh less than you but still wanted a stiffer feel. This is easy. There are no instructions but you can figure it out by experiment. BK

    Chainring and Suspension suggestion help?

switching the chainring Hi Fatall - I'm in the same situation (see some of my other posts here in the Quest thread). I'm also a spinner and climb lots of hills, and I needed lower gears to do that. A week ago I changed the elliptical chainring for a round 36-tooth ring, which could be done...

    Swapping avid bb5 to bb7

Yes, you can do this, but I think you must also use a BB7 rotor, otherwise the pads will not match the rotor. The BB7 has larger pads and a larger rotor surface area (and correspondingly better stopping power). But the braze-on mounts are the same, so swapping the brake unit is trivial. Perhaps...

ISO Quest test ride in/near Portland Oregon

You can try mine in Seattle ... and another in Tacoma Hi Lee Rimer - I agree that you need to try a Quest before buying, but probably a "spin" will not be enough. There's a learning curve and you'll probably be just trying to keep it upright at first. But you are welcome to try my...

Creaks on my new Quest: How to diagnose?

It was the spokes! Thanks for those hints. Yes, it was the spokes, which were quite loose. 1/4 to 1/2 turn needed each one. Now it is much quieter. Ahh .... Meanwhile I have disassembled, greased and tightened every joint and connector on the bike, learned a lot about it, and had hours of...

Creaks on my new Quest: How to diagnose?

My new Quest (559) makes a deeply-aggravating creak or series-of-clinks almost continuously when I ride. I don't know about you, but I like a smooth-running bike and this is driving me nuts! The facts: - It is a metallic creak or clinks. It brings to mind: a disk brake rotor irregularly...

Some thought about my new Quest, after 3 weeks of daily commuting:

    - Having gotten past that embarrassing "I can't control my bike!!!" stage, especially embarrassing since I've been riding recumbents for 15 years, I'm able to enjoy it and appreciate the ingenuity of the design. It's a fun bike to ride, and feels like it would be very comfortable for long...
