Some training hints: Resting and Spinning

I was reminded of something the last few days - Now I need to make a sign and post it on my wall so I do not forget it ever again: I have been having a little trouble lately finishing some of my workouts. I thought it was because I reduced my seat angle by 10 degrees and that might have caused...

    The Cadence Conversations

The key is to find that spot "just before heart failure" and then back off 1%, it is amazing how long you can stay at that level - especially if you imagine a black bear is chasing you or something.

    The Cadence Conversations

That was an interesting video to say the lease.. I agree in the pedal cadence, foot angle on the pedal for his position, and also that much of the fight is in the mind when you are maxed out. He did however seem to imply that this 440 watt effort could be possible for many other people. I...

    Cruzbike KOM/QOM challenge 10-31-17 thru 10-10-18

Hello everyone, I thought I would be able to try and keep track of KOMS by searching everyone's KOM data on Strava, but I find out that sometimes that is not very accurate, so this is what I need everyone to do who wants to participate in the challenge. Create a spreadsheet (google docs if...

    The Cadence Conversations

Good point Slim, Yes I totally forgot to bring the short cranks into the discussion - how silly of me. Think about it - the shorter your cranks are the "less" distance your legs have to move with each rotation. That is a lot of mass that you have to move less distance, therefore...

    The Cadence Conversations

There is definitely a balance that must be found between high and low cadence. I tend to think 100 rpm is a pretty good real world limit to shoot for for most people. About that it becomes a cardiovascular detriment, but also training at that level and above can give you a great cardio benefit...

    Going to a 1x11 setup?

When I ride outdoors, I ride 99% of the in my large 53 tooth chain ring and I have an 11x28. I think with an 11 cog cassette most people should not have an issue with a single chainring unless they are really climbing some really steep stuff. It will probably have to be a trial and error for...

New Dates for Cruzbike Ride Retreat!

It sure would be nice to participate in both. I am pretty sure Cruzbike has already reserved and paid for part of tbe White Lake facility and another week might not be available. Even neater would be to have the retreat somewhere in Nashville still at the same time. But that becomes another...

    Bike Sebring 2018

You younger/stronger studs can spin out your wheels! I do not think I will ever have that raw power. Wait, I did spin my wheel once if I can remember. It was a couple years ago, climbing a 15% grade, oh yeah and it was raining. Does that count...

    Bike Sebring 2018

The real estate on the front of my Vendetta is pretty cramped. Light means no video. I just have to rely on my cat-like reflexes!:D

Thanks - one nice benefit of being 5'6'sh and 150 pounds. Plus - I lather up with Crisco before every race to be extra "slippery"!:D Just kidding - do not try! Yes, I think someone almost always goes down at that turnaround every year. I did back in 2015. I rode off the edge and tried to...

New S40: riding on the trainer vs on the road - seat issue?

Something else also just occurred to me: Your BB could be either too far or too close causing you to inadvertently be positioning yourself on the seat at just the "wrong" place. If you can have someone take a short video of from the side pedaling and post it to us to have a look - that might...

New S40: riding on the trainer vs on the road - seat issue?

I have not had this problem on my Vendetta on a trainer (up to 6 hours non-stop), so I suspect your issue has a little to do with the seat angle which does force more weight onto your rear end. Riding outdoor may help alleviate this as you tend to move around a little more when outside. Just for...

    Bike Sebring 2018

I actually tried the 650 myself, but it put me down so low that my visor and helmet were catching more air and the visibility was also a little worse. I appear to be in almost perfect location with everything stock. One of few times in my life that being short has a good benefit. I would look...
