    BHPC races

I raced at Hog Hill. I enjoyed it. Friendly people. The multifarious variety of HPV types were there. They do four races, but I only had time to do the first one. I think I finished somewhere in the middle of the field, but I wasn't paying enough attention to find out. I just wanted to do...

Mulholland Double Century and KOM Series Race Report

All of what bazzawill said. In a tight downhill corner I just cannot bring myself to trust the tyres to stick to the road. I crashed my Grasshopper and broke my elbow. Each winter I get scared of ice, and wonder if I should get elbow pads. I never wear a lid, but I never worry about my...

    BHPC races

If I do it I will have to take the lights off. The front light is attached to the B bracket, and they think that is dangerous if you crash into someone. They require a bash ring so I got one, but the chainring bolts are not long enough to hold it.

Working harder into the wind / cross wind

So I am not the only one who hates headwinds. It seems worse on the Silvio than on the Grasshopper. I would rather go uphill in a tailwind than downhill in a headwind. Maybe a fairing...

Tips needed on getting more aero with an under seat frame fairing

Who will be the first to try this on a Cruzbike? And will they survive? Yesterday I discovered I can ride no-hands a long way on my Silvio. Never did it on the Grasshopper. You won't get any aero advantage, though.

    The X01 Eagle has landed

To start with: Aargh, the sods! I was up-to-the-minute cool with my 11sp cog and wide-narrow chainwheel, and now they've invented sodding 12sp, the sods! Rant over. Sram website says the Eagle cog is the same as the XX1 with an extra cog slapped on the side, which makes it wider. I had to...

Tips needed on getting more aero with an under seat frame fairing

You can see the derailleur cages on the other bikes, and the absence of one on his. At the end, when he wants to clip in, I think he is going too fast so he puts his feet on the back wheel to brake.

Tips needed on getting more aero with an under seat frame fairing

I saw the Vulcanelli video. Blimey! You can get a bicycle that is designed to be ridden that way. It is RWD and has its BB above the back wheel. They are called belly bikes. He would go even faster if he had fairings on his feet. I bet the UCI disallowed it.

Elliptical chain rings don't work ...

Progress... 5mm cranks. The ankleflappers can use clipless pedals and keep their legs straight and just move their feet up and down. Very aero.

Elliptical chain rings don't work ...

I have Redline 145 cranks and Raceface 42t wide-narrow chainwheel. I suppose I could drill holes in it to make it look like it belongs to an old steel racer-tourer.

Elliptical chain rings don't work ...

Not by me - another ankleflapper. Disgusting! You could try a single ring. Aaargh, depravity! There you go, two flame wars at once.

Elliptical chain rings don't work ...

I turn my ankles. It seems more comfortable, and I think it gives me a tiny bit more power. I ride on my insteps, with heel-clips. I think I could be a useful guinea-pig, as some sort of control-sample. If someone would buy me an oval chainring....

    BHPC races

I might go to the next one. The track is five minutes ride away. If I do it it will be the nearest thing to Sebring that I will ever do. Redbridge track is built on the side of a hill, so I can outclimb the faired people. I think.

Does Cycling Cause Brittle Bones? Is a recumbent worse?

Why is cycling not load-bearing? When you are grinding your granny up the side of a mountain it feels like a load.

What did you do to your Cruzbike today?

Now you know how a wheel feels when it gets bent.

What did you do to your Cruzbike today?

An intelligent idea from ratz. I am now the man with two master-links. My speedo has gone wrong. The fastest I have been is apparently 127 mph. I could never do that in Essex, there are no volcanoes or ski-slopes.

    crash advice

Close call. Lucky it was the bike and not the rider that the truck ate.

What did you do to your Cruzbike today?

Yesterday I collected my wheels from the LBS who were trueing them, because I went through a big hole while going downhill. They said this will be the last time they can repair the back one. I think I should get new ones, but can't decide which. Today the chain got caught between the cog and...
