Ol'Yellow get a New Facelift after 11.6K Miles

+1 Good point. I agree. I believe it will stop the tendency to overheat the rim in the case of a rim brake in such scenarios?

    S40 Build with Road Triple

Nice minimalist build! I wonder how much it weighs as shown. I also like you barend shifters! It would be nice to see a photo of the complete bike from the front in order for me to see how the 440mm wide drop bars look in proportion to the bike.

Ol'Yellow get a New Facelift after 11.6K Miles

+1 on that tailbox! +1 on the beautiful paint job! Where did you get all those decals? Alignment problems not withstanding, I am of the opinion that only the front wheel really needs the disc brake. The rear wheel is best with a rim brake since it is needs a much less powerful brake

    S40 questions

Now, you have basically drawn the last iteration of a Silvio S30 ! The only difference is probably the seat height for the S30 was about 40mm higher and the seat angle was 33 deg! The only advice I'd give is that you increase the wheel base from 1080mm to 1180mm and you will get more plush or...

    Nohands riding and starting.

With practice one can do no-hands start on the flat or slight downhill. I have done it myself. Uphill start is a difficult without the handlebars. Climbing a steep hill or doing a powerful acceleration or sprint requires a handlebar to counter the pedal steer. However, I must give credit where...

    S40 questions

Your design proposal above (460mm seat height at 34 deg angle) is nice, I must say. However, from my own experience, a continuous or direct connection from the handlebar to the BB is the best for this FWD MBB bicycle(the V and the S have a direct connection ). This is because strong pedalling...

    Newbie S40 Build Details

When fully rested and relaxed on the neck/head rest with your hands on the handlebars, are your hands slightly bent at the elbow or are they fully stretched out? Are your hands on the handlebars higher than your shoulders? Level or slightly lower is best. I find that if my handlebar positions...

Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

I also wax may chain. I use ordinary parrafin candle wax mixed with some 2 to 3 tablespoons of some type of engine oil treatment with Teflon or PTFE. The engine treatment makes the wax less brittle and sticks to the chain longer. I usually re-use my wax over and over until it's too dirty. I...

Looks great and light. How much does it weight? 9kg? 10kg?

    Carbon Fiber Fun

Wow! That's a seriously oversized boom! Must be quite rigid with serious power transfer. Are you going to trim and plug the hole at the bottom end of the boom?

    QX100 Steering Mod

I specifically tried to isolate the flex and it was quite clear that it was coming from the extended quill stem and the adjustable reverse stem. The seat tube connector diameter has not changed before and after the mod. It is 28.6mm. The original seat tube that is welded to the bottom bracket...

    QX100 Steering Mod

Well, got some but not very sharp. Basically I had an adjustable stem facing backwards. It had a flexing noise whenever I put some force on the pedals or just leaning on the handlebars. Before: Notice the two pivot points? One infront of the steerer tube and the other on the reverse stem. Even...

    QX100 Steering Mod

I also gave my DIY an Emeljay treat! It is indeed very stiff compared to a stem attached directly to the vertical steerer tube. However mine is on a budget;) so I little heavier with a 28.6mm (1-1/8") steel tube instead of Aluminium. I could swap for the lighter tube later when I get one. I...

    T50 seat advice needed

Ditto! A longer reversed stem will also give you more options. However, alternatively, for a stiffer, stronger and cleaner solution, later when you have more time, do an Emeljay steerer conversion: I also modified my DIY using Emeljay ideas: However mine is on a budget;) so I little...

    S40 questions

In a race on open public roads, where group drafting and teams are in play, safety and relative uniformity is important and can become an issue. Imagine for a moment a "peleton" of recumbent bicycles with chainrings sticking out in front (SWB)for some, while others are so low down (aka low...

Coast Down testing with Larry Oz!

My point exactly. The total average speed over a mixed course depends not only on aerodynamics but the power the rider can generate. "A more aerodynamic position whether recumbent or upright would not necessarily increase the speed if it puts the riders body in a posture that limits his/her...

    S40 questions

Unlike diamond frame road bikes through the UCI, there is no uniform design standard that cuts across the board for recumbent bicycles for the purposes of equipment manufacture and racing that levels the playing field and reduces the total cost of ownership. There are far too many completely...

    T50 seat advice needed

Quite steep. I think for seat angles above 35 the Thor site recommends the GS model because it has a slight curve to prevent sliding forward. Otherwise it looks good and must be quite light too.
