    OzHPV Sydney ride

Last Saturday (25th May) I took my Sofrider V2 along to an OzHPV organised group ride in Sydney. We had a very nice leisurely ride along the Cooks River Cyclepath from Olympic Park to Marrickville and back, stopping midway for lunch at a great cafe in an old Post Office building (called the...

    Sydney riders?

Anyone riding a Cruzbike in the Sydney area? Or elsewhere in New South Wales? I'd love to see one in action.

Silvio Review by Bryan Ball, Bentrideronline.com

Yeah, I really should have put an order in for one a few months ago when the Aussie dollar was worth over 95 US cents instead of under 70c like it is now  (For those who don't know what I'm blathering on about, the Cruzbike prices are fixed in US dollars with the prices for other...

    Century!!!!

Nice ride report, and congrats on the century :) It's odd reading about cyclists struggling with fog while here we're well into spring. In fact today was particularly warm, and during the 80km/50 mile group ride I took my Sofrider on this morning our main weather related risks were...

    On-One Midge Bars

There's a comparison of the On-One Midge and the Origin-8 Gary here and here. The overall width is basically the same, but the Midge has a wider top section due to a little less flare of the drops. The Midge is also a fair bit lighter, but costs more.

    Cruzn Trav 1 new build

Congratulations :) Remember to post some pictures of the build. Did you buy the Spinergys from Torpedo7? I spotted them there in the list of weekly special items and thought to myself 'they would go brilliantly on a Silvio', and just a few days later I find out that you had exactly the same...

    Crankset advice

When buying bike components from Australia I have to recommend you have a look at the big European online shops, like Chain Reaction Cycles and ProBikeKit. It's nice to buy local when you can, but the price differential can be huge so when you're buying expensive bits the overseas options are...

q-rings work great (except for shifting)

I wouldn't read too much into those vague disclaimers from Rohloff. The original Speedhub was specced to withstand use on a tandem with two elite athletes giving it all they've got when they're using the lowest chainring/sprocket ratio Rohloff allow. The Speedhub "lite" will have a lower...

    Darn Nice conversion crankset

When trying to work out what the effect of a change of gearing would be Sheldon Brown's Gear Calculator is incredibly useful. Just enter your current gearing, and the new gearing you're considering, and it'll calculate the results of each combination. It'll output in gain ratios, gear inches...

    Safe Pedals

Crank Brother Quattros are great, I don't have them on my Sofrider but I use them on my other recumbent. Road shoe & pedal light weight and solid feel, but with a grippy block surrounding the cleat so your feet don't slide when starting/stopping.

    Fixed that for you ;)

    Riding with racers

I think you might be right there... :? I've already mentally promised myself a Silvio if I land the new job I've got my eye on, it'd be a significant increase in pay and a change from contract to permanent work so treating myself to a new bike to celebrate would be entirely reasonable...

    Riding with racers

Doing the Around the Bay in a Day ride, eh? Good on ya :) I've not done it myself yet but I will do when I get a chance. As it's not until October I'm sure you've got plenty of time to train up for it, just keep clocking up the km's and gradually increase the distance of the longest rides...

    Keeps your energy level up!

Yeah, I've heard it said that your body stores plenty of energy for 1-1.5 hours of exertion so there's not much to be gained from eating during a ride of that sort of length (apart from a psycological boost, perhaps :) ). Personally I just drink plain water if I won't be riding for long, but...

    The Cruzbike Body

Also the 'useful' aspect of swimming is more marginal than riding a Cruzbike :) A bike is a practical form of transportation under the right circumstances, whereas very few people can swim to work or take a touring holiday by swimming from place to place... ;)

    Front fairing

John T experimented with a fairing on the second prototype Silvio, I think it was a Windwrap. Image file is a bit too large for the board unfortunately, and as it's not mine I can't simply resize it: Edit: Downloaded it, resized it, then uploaded it again as attachment... I don't...

    North to West Head

Google map of the location of the photos is here, in case anyone is interested. Incidentally Palm beach, which is visible in a couple of the photos, is where they shoot the exterior scenes for Home and Away...

    North to West Head

Thanks Peder :) I certainly thought I'd earned the views by the time I got to West Head, by that point I'd been riding for about 45km at a fast pace with lots (and lots) of hills and some dead road surfaces that made it feel like I was climbing even when I wasn't! Very satisfying though, as you...

    North to West Head

Another not-really-a-ride-report from me, when I have more time I'll come back and describe the ride but for the time being here's some pretty pictures :) The pics are from this morning's Bike North 'North to West Head' ride, which as the name suggests goes to the lookout at West Head (northern...
