How old is Jesse?
Larry or Jim might know or you can ask him on BROL; he's a quiet poster only 107 since 2014 you can safely assume he's on his bike and not his keyboard. If his Strava profile is accurate then he's in the bracket 35-45 based HR zones. We can make a closer guess based on data but really just go ask him; that's polite, faster and more precise. o_O Then again there are days Larry's data makes him look 32.

Haha - ya - today - my body is telling me it's about 80 after that crash last night! More to come on that.. :) Got video of the crash...

I'm guessing Jessie is around 40 as well - I'll find out.
Our HR's where almost identical for the race.
Jesse's average HR was 154 (max 180), mine was 156 (max 190).
Jesse weights 80kg, so his NP watts/kg for the race was 196/80 = 2.45
My weight is 68kg, so my NP watts/kg for the race was 176/68 = 2.59 ( so I worked a little hard per kg of body weight)
Jim lost his first 53 minutes of power data, but for the last 3:07 of the race his 75Kg with NP at 185 - gave him 185/75 = 2.47
We where all pretty close in that respect!
Ain't data fun!

I see that and stand corrected.
Well, whatever they call themselves - this means war - so get ready for some more great competition.
Haaaa ... I better stop wearing my Vite Racing top. Funny world. The odd thing is I ordered my Cruzbike jersey a week ago!

What is the white dustpan looking thing on the back of Jim's V20?

Fantastic race everyone. The video was awesome. Mr. Ratz, will your training regimen have me riding with these guys next year? :D:D

It will make you cuse when you do these (see photo): (Note I wanted to grab larry's raam workout but his account is flagged private; I need to get him to fix that so everyone can be terrified.)
Seriously though with a V20 we can train anyone up to cruising in the 19-22mph range with nothing this ugly. PluckyBlond gets bored now if the ride is under 75 miles now; and slower than 19mph. That's a far cry from the dirty looks i'd get on a 45-50miler the first two years.

Sounds like fun. I need some structure. Social rides don't get you fitter.

BTW, I was joking. I'll never be in Larry or Jim's league. Those guys are outrageous.

Mark, not outrageous. Heck not more than 2 years ago I was just riding an upright Hybric back and forth to work, and I was 30+ pounds heavier. Nothing crazy - I could never keep up with the "fast" crowd all that well. I even raced Critiriums on a road bike for a summer back in 1986. I never made it out of cat3. Partly I think it was because I did not know how to train. Partly I think the recumbent platform just seems to "fit" me better. Chances are good that I'm not out of anybody's league. Mostly I train like a mad-man and stick to the program like glue, especially when it hurts. I'l' bet most people, if they mimicked what I road daily would be pretty close.

OK - My account is public now bob.
Here is my RAAM test workout from Monday: (but it doesn't really look like much)
12 x 22 minute intervals (2 min warmup - 20 minutes at 193 watts), then rest 17-18 minutes - those rest period are not in the program - I just paused it) - repeat 5 times - 4 hours break - then repeat 6 more times

It was a little "fairing" for lack of a better word - to channel the airflow around the water bottles behind his neck rest.
It is officially known as the "Jim's dustpan" now. Also good for cleaning up the dust you kick up when you fly by your competitors!

It seems like its time for Cruzbike to take a trip over to the A2 wind tunnel (link here). It is right next door in Mooresville and really not that expensive for Jims or Larry's :) pocket books. It could answer a lot of aero questions about the bike/ position and gear. Maybe Larry could widen his handlebars a little and stop crashing.

Larry, being made of steel, seems to enjoy crashing.
It does say a lot to the design of the Vendetta. Had it been a $12k Carbon DF the injuries would be a lot worse and quite a big hole in the pocket.

But the little handlebars offers little stability. Perhaps it needs an emergency pop out bars that you can grab if something goes wrong. On the encores I did see someone riding with like a hand rest attachment. That might work on Larry's bars to give extra lateral attachment.

Riding <> Training
Training <> Riding

There is time for both; thanks to this thing called Weather.

Training + Riding = Grinning

Believe me when I tell you that Jim and Larry's check books are in different universes.
As far as a wind tunnel: I'm looking at it and have got pricing, but they would have to do modification to hold most recumbents due to the long wheelbases. But also have some designs of just building one myself - one that is portable and only for bicycles.
Will let you know when it is up and running (currently looking for sponsors.. hehe )
..
Also - IMHO - the crashes that I have had I do not believe could have been prevented with wider handlebars.
Actually the crash in Sebring (from the front flat) was with wide handlebars (I switched them out for Alvin to learn to ride the V and just never put then back).
I actually think the narrow bars help me from sticking my arm out and dislocating it. It is much easier to keep the grip on the stubby bars. Plus if you do ride the bike to the ground and keep your hands on the drops, you will wear your knuckles off and have road rash on your forearm too. I've done it all ways, believe me!
When I go done at these speeds it is so fast, there virtually is not time to re-act.
Getting read to post my crash video on a different thread - Stay tuned

When I checked the weather the day before the race, it said there was a 41% chance of rain. The "dustpan" is primarily a splashguard/fender. Here is a brief video showing it up close. It's made from corrugated plastic sign material and zip-ties.

I might do some aero testing on it to see if it has any effect. I wouldn't expect much effect since it doesn't conform to a teardrop.

I've always followed the rule that the best time to try out new equipment or food items is on important race days.
