2022 Q45 - where does the water bottle go?

Not perfect but at least i can carry water on rides. As an unplanned and unexpected benefit, I can easily remove and replace bottles in the lower position. Very excited about that!

Further photos.
Without the lower cages being angled, the 2022 seat mounting system would make it difficult if not impossible to remove the bottles, if they could even be gotten into the cages to start with. At this angle, they're easily removed and replaced even while riding.

Third pic compares a 20oz vs a 24oz bottle up top. If I was a little more flexible I might be able to access the taller 24oz bottle while riding. Will work on that.

The Presta stem cap makes a handy cover for that exposed skewer end.

Trying out an old Radical Design bag under the seat.

I have 7 bottle locations on my S40, but my favorite is on the top of the boom right in front. I can easily grab and drink while riding. Everywhere else, I have to stop to get a bottle in and out of the cage. The boom has threaded holes on top for the cage. I don't know if the Q45 has these.

I thought I would ask again- see if anyone has a new idea.
Where can I place the water bottle for easy acces on the "22 Q45?

This cage works perfectly The cage I was using before allowed the bottle to bounce out if I hit a big bump and would move around on smaller bumps. The key here is the stiffness of the cage and top of the cage is bent forward.

Here is my solution to mounting under seat water bottles to Q-45. King Cage Universal Support Bolts, like water pump clamps with brazed on cage mount bolts (Don’t use the King Cage bolts on carbon parts!). Very customizable and rock solid. The velcro straps are for insurance preventing bottles from being thrown since I ride a lot of bumpy trails. If you use Lezyne bottle cages the Velcro strap is likely not needed. The bottle on the boom is attached with Twofish Quick Cage Adapter. I’ve successfully used these systems for years on various bikes. Only failure was the Twofish velcro strap occasionally breaking after very long use. I now buy the Bear Hug Anywhere Water Bottle Cage Mount off Amazon, which gives a slightly better grip and looks like may last longer than the Twofish. Of note, I now use fabric auto wiring harness tape when I attach accessories to frame parts, seems better grip and longer lasting than electric tape. The under seat mounts work with Zefal Max bottles. Best of luck to all with this issue, and great to see all the creativity demonstrated by various folks on this post.

Hello - do you ever hit the bottle on the inside of the boom? Can you reach the water bottle under the seat while riding?
Thanks

I have on a few occasions bumped the bottle when mounting the bike, but very rare and it is easy to shift back into place. Never when pedaling. If that's a concern for you, you can flip it so the bottle is on top of the boom (maybe a bit less aerodynamic?). I don't attempt to grab the under seat bottles while riding. I drink from the boom bottle, and switch bottles when stopped when the boom bottle is empty. I try to drink at least a bottle per hour and generally stop at least once per hour, so switching out the bottles is not a big deal. BTW, the Rockbros bags are inexpensive ones off Amazon. The are perfect for the placement area and I've found them to be very durable and the zipper much easier to use than on the Cruzbike bag on my S40. I keep heavier items (tools) in the front bag. Seems to help reduce front wheel slippage up steep grades (there are short 12% grades on the dirt trails I ride with this bike).

I use a waterbottle on the top of the boom. There are mounting points for the cage.

Since I ride in very hot Texas, I use up to two 64 oz thermoses mounted on the back of my Thor Carrier seat:

I fill them with ice, then water. The ice does not melt in the thermos but it does in my thermal water bottle. So when I refill the water bottle, I poor lots of ice in the bottle, and it stays cold until used up. For a 50 mile ride, I need the 20 oz water bottle plus one 64 oz thermos. For 60-70 mile ride, I need both thermoses.

There are two Blackburn Outpost Cargo Water Bottle Cages and two Klean Kanteen TK Wide 64 Oz thermoses.

If there are mounting points on my Q45 boom, I'm not seeing them.

My Q45 boom doesn't have mounting points either. I believe the Vendetta have but not the Q (or S which uses the same boom)

There are universal mounts that can go onto the boom. Look for 'universal bottle cage mounts' - Zefal and SKS do them.

Both my Vendetta and S40 had slider mounts. Make sure you check under the slider as it depends on how you orient it. I also purchased curved sliders, which have mounts.

I'm in the process of building out a Q and figuring the what what, like accessible bottle cages. From the parts bin came the Minoura bottle cage mount. I have had this largely unused since the dawn of time but it works really well and they actually still make it. The new version is a bit more adjustable as it rotates. It has a good amount of offset and puts the bottle just outside the seat edge and in easy reach. Now to order a second one.

I have a T50 and this has always been an issue. I solved it by using a water bottle adapter and attaching it to the riser. Then I use an aero water bottle so that it doesn't hit my legs. The bottle is within easy reach. While these bottles are more expensive than standard, you can get them pretty cheaply through AliExpress.

I believe there are other alternatives, but I used a Wolftooth B-RAD from the parts bin and mounted the bottle on the boom. No restrictions on water bottles.IMG_6192.jpeg
