10 percent they report, that is pretty nice if you can get it, would deliver about what, 3% more speed/distance?

and what about those luge dudes at the olympics, I'd love a face shield like that, tinted of course, so I can suffocate in privacy :geek:

Hello John T.

Here is a rather pricey helmet to consider.

I offer no endorsement or knowledge of it's scientific merits.

Has anyone got any suggestions for what aero helmet we should find for Maria? The one I saw on Contadora (?) on the tour had an integrated visor, nice and smooooooth, I like it, but what happens when the head orientation is different?

The drag from the human head is caused primarily by the turbulance occurring behind the head. The road bike time trial helmets attempt to reduce this by fairing the helmet into the rider's back as much as possible. In a recumbent position this is impossible. The only approach with a recumbent helmet is to extend it to the rear as much as possible. I don't know what the rules permit, but extending the cross section to the rear, with gradual tapering, if possible, is the only shape that will do much to reduce the drag. If a tail box were legal, the top of the tail box could be shaped to mate with the helmet in a continuous airfoil shape.

I was wondering if a helmet from another sport where you are laid back would be the answer - the only sport I could think of was the Skeleton as seen at the winter Olympics....
