Boom Slipping

The boom on my V20 continually slips down as I ride; that is the whole boom tube slips through the boom clamp slowly. Obviously I have it tightened properly as well as the clamp on the bottom bracket (even have some threadlock in all the bolts to make sure that's not that issue.)

I don't want to add a hose clamp w/a strip of inner tube above the clamp as back-up because it's crude and ugly but that's about the only solution I can think of. Anyone else having this issue? (fwiw I'm 6'1" and the bottom bracket is out there more than a lot of builds I see, but that shouldn't really be an issue I wouldn't think.)

I'm on an S40, I'm 6'3" and have no issue with boom slip FWIW.

One suggestion for an alternative to putting a strip of rubber inside the clamp would be carbon assembly paste. It'll give it additional grip and if you wipe off whatever part oozes out after tightening it'll be invisible. Hope this helps.

I also use carbon paste. It works so far.

Ah, great, thanks. I'll try that if my initial attempt at putting inner tube inside the boom clamp fails.

I had boom slip and it irritated me so much that I put locktite threadlock between the boom and slider... it doesnt slide now.

Please explain how to insert these items to stop boom slippage. I have a Silvio and it slips a lot.

Try the carbon paste thing for carbon bike seat post. That worked for me. You extend the boom first. Put some paste around. Then shorten the tube to what you need. Then tighten the clamp.

Before you apply the carbon paste, please clean all of the parts first with hot soapy water, rinse the parts thoroughly,
dry the parts completely and finally wipe the parts clean with a new rag and alcohol.
(You're removing paint particles, fingerprints, oils and lubes from the factory, waxes, and shiny stuff.)

This might seem silly, but look at the slipping tubes and verify that the outermost tube has a contraction slot cut into it. This is necessary to allow the tube to tighten (reduce in diameter) when the clamp is pulled up tight. It could have been overlooked when the tube was manufactured, or accidentally removed if the tube was shortened...

Should be a 5mm wide slot cut about 30mm into the tube with an 6mm hole at the end to spread the stress.

Will US cyclist know what 5 mm is??? (0.2"), and 32mm is (1.26").

I also drilled out the Aluminium thread on the clamp, filed the end flat, added a S/S nut and washer, and lubricated the allen head and nut/washer interfaces to the AL clamp to reduce friction, so a higher clamping load can be applied!

Can you post a photo?

That (Blue Loctite) works on carbon handlebars if you are worried that extra clamp load may crush section. I use it on all derailleur set screws.

nope. remember locktite is essentially a cyanoacyrlic. just don't use a ton. when you are ready to move the bar again loosed the clamp and give it a good jerk or a whack and it comes free

Do I need to use a Patented Ratz persuader (Rubber Mallet!!!)

My boom and slider would not stay in place on my original V20 (yellow one). I tried everything. I would have liked to think that I just had so much power, but I don't think that is it?
I ended up tapping through the boom and the slider and screwed a SS bolt in it. Never slid again after that! :D
