Can't get into lowest gear (Q45) question

The derailleur pulley is bumping into the largest cog. My Q45 has the microshift XLE derailleur and the b-screw is screwed all the way in.

Should I get a longer b-screw to push it further out so it doesn't bump into the biggest cog (lowest gear)?

It will get into that gear once in a while, both most of the time the chain won't jump to the biggest cog of the cassette.

To make sure we’re talking about the same thing, the b-screw adjusts the gap between the pulley and the cassette, while the high and low limit screws adjust the max travel inboard and outboard. It looks like Microshift has videos on their website, but another great resource is ParkTool

If the upper jockey wheel is hitting the biggest cog either the B-stay screw needs to be screwed in further (most likely) or possibly the chain is too short. What size cassette are you using? Is it within spec for the microshift derailleur (42 tooth)?

I have the stock 42 tooth. My B screw is screwed all the way in. I think I'll buy a longer B screw and see if that fixes the problem.

A longer B screw didn't help. Perhaps I need a Microshift 11-40T cassette (instead of the stock 11-42T).

I ordered a Shimano Deore XT (M8000) 11-40T. Hopefully that will work.

Can you post a pick of drivetrain in the lowest gear? Is the cage of the derailleur pointing straight forward, or do you still get some chain wrap around the pulleys? It may be you need another link-or-two of chain. You will be gaining that by going to the 40 tooth as well.

This is an interesting problem. I didn't have, and don't remember reading of others that had, problems with shifting to the largest (42T) cog on their stock Q. Your original problem stated that the pulley was bumping the cassette, but that it did sometimes shift.
Is this the original chain or a replacement? If a replacement, then @Greg S post regarding the chain being too short may be the problem.

It's the original chain. I now have a 38T chainring which should have loosened the chain slightly. Hopefully the Shimano 11-40T will fix the problem. I'll post here after it arrives and I test it.
