Components for a Silvio S30

Charles you are running out

Charles you are running out of excuses not to by a Silvio..... it's almost too easy now.

:D

At this point, I'm leaning towards going to the V as I've already got suspended bikes that have seat angles close to 30 degrees. But probably not terribly soon...

But as this is a Silvio thread, this is off topic. (And given infinite resources, is love to have both)

Well, there are still some issues...

I still need to figure out how to make the front derailleur work-- the current braze-on tab is too high for the FD to work well with this setup.

I'm seeing about what to do about that. I wish that the Silvio came with a shim for a clamp-on adapter instead of having the braze on slot as it does right now (or, perhaps I wish that the slot was longer). Another option is to install higher gears (literally-- a couple of centimeter taller (and thus higher) gears would make everything work just fine).

If it is not too late, I'd like to pick up on this. I was thinking of using 48/32 chainrings but, as you say, the slot is too high (or not long enough), I cannot get the derailleur low enough. Has anyone figured out how to use a smaller than 50-tooth chainring?

If you are willing to cut the stalk off; and put a replacement end on then there is a solution created by scabinetguy that will solve the problem. It's just a 1 way modification. The Suggestion would be to try a standard configuration with a 50/34 and a 12-36+ Wolf 42 on the back. If that doesn't work out you then cut the stauk and lower the derailuer and istall a 40/32 on the front and away you..

Newb here...be gentle :) Haven't changed out a sprocket in 30+ years and the BB was much more simple then.
Sooooo...Stock Silvio S30 has FSA 110 BCD cranks and 50/34t chainrings.

Can I swap in 50/34 Q rings with no other adjustments? Does it just work?

Would I be better off with more teeth considering my terrain? What would ya'll suggest? How much more difficult is it to tune?

Easy peasy; you need 2 allen wrench and maybe a screw driver.
On your terrain a 52/36 (biggest that fit on 110BCD) would rock and give you 56/49 and 40/33 like performance on the two rings.

Orienting the rings is the only thing people struggle with; mostly because the instructions are meant for the 130BCD rings; but if you follow the other thread on Q-rings we can get you setup and debugged.

Bob, do I understand you correctly regarding the "biggest that fits on 110BCD"? I have a 110BCD 53/38 pair of Q-rings on the bike now.

Well hey that's cool, 53/38 in 110bcd appears to be a new option or they were out of stock last year., mean while 54/44 on 130bcd is one I don't recall either..
