Helmets

Being new to recumbent riding I've found that due to the position I catch more insects with my mouth.

No matter how much bug spray is fogged by helicopter or other means here around the tidal Potomac, some bugs survive and get in my clothing, mouth, eyes, etc. I try to keep the tip of my tongue against the top of my mouth close to the teeth when I ride; the occasional bug at least won't get inhaled and make me cough or choke. Evening is the worst for bugs, and crossing a river is a twilight zone experience if there is no bug control.

I remember trying those nostril openers and thought it would be a good try on a recumbent... not. Good way of swallowing insects very quickly. Full face faring is the only way. Something like a welders eye protector would be good

For the above helmet i understand it doesnt advertise MIPs but it does have removable earmuffs and has ventilation. It looks fast and has a HUGE lens. I want to find the biggest face protection i can.

Looks pretty snazzy Andrew. My goto helmet is still the Limar Speed King and a SHOEI CJ-3 lense that I magnetized myself with 3 small magnets. I have a few different lenses by now, but the CJ-3 is my favorite. I can flip it up out of the way easily when necessary. I also still use Alpina Twist 5 polarized sunglasses because the arms are adjustable so I can get the bottom of the lense to rest against my face so that my eyes don't dry out and bugs can't easily hit them. The tinted CJ-3 lense sits close to my cheekbones so there is a little extra protection from the wind as well. I am keeping an eye out for a deal on other full face skydiving helmets though.

Giro Vanquish mimps helmet with eye shield. It runs a little hot
Yes, the sun can heat it like a greenhouse, but after I followed Bill's lead and put electric tape inside it runs much cooler.

That one looks far too closed for proper ventilation and in my experience such large visors get blurred with condensation in winter.

Below 5°C I use ski goggles, I found some giro ones that do not impede my view of the road (I also have a fox mtb mask but it’s a bit too narrow and prevents me to properly see my mirror.
Above 5°C most of the time I wear my favorite Rudy Spectrum with standard glasses but if it’s raining I may use a Ekoi aero15 with magnetic screen; the inner rim is a bit too stiff compared to the Rudy but the screen protection is nice.

Why not a full face mtb helmet with goggles then? As close as you’ll get to actual full face and proper ventilation to avoid frying your brain.
